but am all occupied with an interesting statistical problem, so maybe it just rolled right past my consciousness. (I'm at Los Robles & Green).

Sounds like a big one.
In my experience in SoCal in the 90s, earthquakes that felt like 'rollers' were big ones a long way away.

12. That HAD to rock a couple Du'ers I know in the area! |
|
There are two Du'ers I know that are in very close proximity to the epicenter but I don't know if they have posted their general vicinity in the past.
Hope they check in on this thread.
It rolled for quite a while softly in Orange County so it covered a wide area.

We are isolated without cell or phone. I was able to get on the internet because I have a battery on my laptop and the modem is working??? The dog and other cats are missing. Benny is under the bed. I have to go and try to get in touch with someone and I have to find the dog. I will post later. It was centered in San Simeon and is a 6.2 from what the neighbors said.
My house is still up on it's piers but I don't know for how long if we have after shocks. I don't know about El Diablo. I'm am scared!!

35. NSMA, you woulda loved it here in Oxnard, then! I'm 16 floors up |
|
In a 22-story tower on rollers. We ROLLED for a good, long while. I'm sure the ground had stopped before we did.
I always forget to start timing these things, but it was long enough for me to close all my open programs, shut down my computer, and hang out in the only available doorway left (all my co-workers jumped up right away), and tell everyone to stay calm and take deep breaths until it was over.

31. When someone e-mails to say they felt an earthquake, ... |
|
they are generally OK. Anything that would hurt them, such as the ceilign collapsing on their head, would likely prevent the e-mail. When I lived in California, I was talking on the phone to someone on the East Coast when a little roller hit: I casually noted 'oh, we're having an earthquake here' and went on with the prior conversation. He said I blew his mind.
Hey, I'll sell you an earthquake detector cheap, only $19.95!

She wrote back:
"HA, no. Jennifer is. She really freaked. Grabbed her purse as if she was gonna leave. Teary eyes.
"Dude. Elevator? I don't think so. Shaking, swaying stairwell? Hell no. Just calm down and stay put. We're fine!! No broken windows, nothing. RELAXX!!!"

41. So far it was magnitude 6.5. |
|
Buildings in the historic area of Paso Robles came down. Some people are buried in the rubble. We have no electricity nor phone. I am listening to a battery operated radio so we have no reports from Morro Bay where another DU'er lives or the city of San Luis Obispo that are closer to the epicenter than I am.

I got cell phone service back, but batteries are wearing down and I have to leave it open to get calls back about the dog. My computer battery is down to so you won't hear from me until electric is back. It may be days. I just felt an aftershock. Well, never a dull moment is there. Is God taking a piss on California? What gives?
