"I'm a Democrat," Insists Willis

Bruce Willis has dismissed his "Hollywood Republican" reputation, insisting his political beliefs go far deeper. Confusion over the movie hardman's politics was sparked when he reportedly backed the war in Iraq, and even made an appearance with US President George W. Bush at the White House. But now he's keen to be seen as a staunch Democrat, according to the New York Daily News. He says, "I'm always being accused of being a Hollywood Republican - but I'm not! I have just as many Democratic ideas as Republican ones. If they could build three fewer bombs every month and give the money to foster care, that would be great."

3. I'll go with that but you never really know what a person believes in

I personally know two doctors who drive massive SUV's but volunteer almost an entire day every week at a free health clinic sponsored by them and their episcopal church. Mom volunteers there too and she says they also acquire free prescriptions for the homeless, some like AIDS and cancer treatment prescriptions that are very expensive.

People should think about that the next time they think it would be real cool to key someone's Escalade.

6. Almost every MD I worked with in grad school had an SUV of some sort...
...but then again, I went to grad school in Buffalo, and doctors have a resposibility to their patients whether or not there's three feet of snow on the ground. I gave them a pass on that.

7. Bingo
hospitals are open during hurricanes, blizzards, etc and the attending is not going to be pleased if a doc/med student who is on call doesn't show up cause of the weather.

8. A lot of people drive SUV's for a lot of reasons
Sure, there are the gas hogs, who drive them for status or to play "king of the road," but I've lived long enough to know things are seldom as they seem.

11. True but even more people like to polarize and say things like...
...you can't be pro-environment unless you drive a Yugo, you can't be anti-war if you're pro-gun, you don't believe in human rights if you support tougher immigration laws, etc.

Who knows what Bruce Willis truly believes? I can sure point out a lot more supposedly liberal and/or green celebrities that don't practice what they preach.

17. I doubt it's that much of a factor

They have their share of idiots too. You can't be pro-life if you take birth control, you don't support Bush unless you support the war, Katrina was Nagin and Blanco's fault, it's the Clinton recession (even in the second term), etc.

There are some republicans that do have some decency and common sense and criticize this administration and they too are ridiculed and despised by their fellow republicans.

10. That's what I was thinking
If Bush's ratings were above 50%, Bruce wouldn't have felt he needed to make this clarification. I looked his name up on Opensecrets and he really hasn't donated to any candidates of either party

20. Exactly.
I fucking HATE celebrities that change their minds midstream. :grr: I wish they'd just pick a party and stick with it. Being wishy-washy and going to whatever's "popular" wins NO points with me.

23. Dem or Repub, the ideals are where it's at.
And he's right. Even by reducing the military budget by 3 bombs would not hurt the military but help many more Americans we're protecting.
