Does anyone here sell on eBay? |
|
Just curious... I've bought about 30 items over the years (just won an auction for a rug), but have never sold.
A little extra income wouldn't hurt at all, but it also seems like eBay has added so many bells and whistles on their listings that turning a profit is more difficult.
Just wondering if anyone here sells on eBay, and would like to hear about your experience.
Thanks.

1. My husband's been selling on ebay for about nine years now. |

I've done some selling of my own, but I don't have that many transactions to my name. We've both bought and sold things, but he's got the most experience with it by far. The upside is that many people use ebay and it's got the best exposure of any auction site; the downside is that listing fees can eat up your profits, and accepting credit cards and other payments through PayPal will also cost you if you use it to any extent (and ebay owns PayPal now). You can use "auction assistant" software to help you list large quantites of items, but it also costs you. Selling without pictures is not a good idea; I wouldn't buy anything online without seeing it first, and most people won't. If you have a digital camera, you can upload pics whenever you need to. The time involved in taking pics, listing items, weighing them, and sending invoices for ended auctions is considerable; just keep that in mind when you're selling. Unless you're a "power seller", you won't be able to talk to an ebay customer service person in person if you have an issue; you must go through the online chat feature, which can be a pain in the ass. :(
Also, people can be a pill to deal with. Most ebayers are just fine, but there are occasional nutjobs and crooks.
Bottom line: selling through ebay can indeed be worthwhile, but please keep in mind your investments in time, energy, and fees. :)

4. I sold the contents of a 3 bedroom home-- |
|
Also---everything in a two bedroom apartment.
An old car----Lincoln
Signed, authentic sports memorabilia
Clothing, cosmetics, pet supplies, medical supplies, vintage magazines and record albums, gift certificates, textbooks, etc, etc.
I probably sold almost everything you can sell on eBay.
I made alot of money---eBayed for about 2 years----It's great. If I had the patience I'de do it again. I think about going back often.
