I don't get crushes on strangers, is that odd? |
|
I see all these posts about TV crushes and rock star crushes and whatnot, and I can't relate at all. I think I had maybe two crushes in high school, and one as an adult, and they all turned into relationships. For that matter, I've only had one full-blown blushing, stammering, butterflies in the stomach thing going on, and I wound up falling in love with the guy. :loveya: I've never had an attraction like that to somebody I don't know, I might notice that they're cute but that's it.
I never really questioned that but with all the crush threads lately I'm begining to wonder if that's abnormal in some way. Do you get crushes on celebrities and other strangers? Is it normal not to?

I posted my first rock star crushes in that thread, but it was more like a lust..lol. I don't understand how people develop any kind of feelings for people on TV or whatever.

I don't think the word "crush" is really applicable to attractions to rock stars, etc. We may think we know Linda Ronstadt, or whoever, but of course we don't. To really have a crush on someone, you have to know them... at least a little bit.

What I define as a crush is looking at a picture and going "he's so cute" or "she's so beautiful", i.e. if I think they are physically attractive I say I 'have a crush on' them. Usually for me it's someone who also has a gift that I admire like a musician or an athlete. I get them on actors least of all, because I just don't get into actors that much.
"I might notice that they're cute but that's it." It just sounds like you have a different definition of crush than other people, not that you are not doing the exact same behavior.

You've managed to grow out of adolesence - I'll get slammed for that by some. But that's how I see it.
Thinking someone is attractive is one thing, but crushes as an adult should be a sign to someone they're not completely living in reality.
