(Ladies) Would you donate your eggs? |
|
(For the purpose of another's conception.) If you'd consider it, to whom would you be willing to donate them? A family member? A stranger?
I'm pretty sure I'd be comfortable sharing mine with my sister, but I'd have to put more thought into whether I'd offer them to anyone else. I just don't know.

1. No, not to a stranger. |
|
Not unless it could be guaranteed that I wouldn't be looked up 18 years down the road. To a family member, maybe..

2. If they were still young enough to be used, |
|
sure, why not? And to anyone who wanted them. I never wanted to use them. Why not help someone who wanted babies but couldn't have them without that help? To me, it's the same as donating an organ. Anyone need a kidney? I'm game. Doesn't have to be a family member. The only requirement is that it helps someone.

Well, if I still had any.....I would!
But mine are long gone....total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral oophorectomy in 1990......
I think it would be cool if someone had a child with my eggs......
A little bit of my family going off into some other place....
I like it!
But alas, not to be, anymore........

4. No, I really wouldn't be able to handle the idea of a stranger raising my |
|
child. I also would not be willing to risk my own health and fertility for somebody else. After all, if they're willing to raise somebody else's child, there's already adoption.

5. I thought about it in the past |
|
but then I thought what if the child ended up with total maniacs that abused him or her and then I would feel karmically responsible so I never did it.

I'd donate them to anybody. As another poster said, I'm not using them. I don't really consider my DNA some kind of sacred trust.

7. Maybe to a good friend or family member |
|
but I don't think I'd like the idea of a total stranger raising my child.

This might sound a little selfish, but oh well. I personally do not want to bring a child into this world when there are so many children out there without homes. So I'm keeping my eggs, because I in no way want to responsible for bring yet another life into this world, even if it's a roundabout sort of way.

My eggs are a little too old, but I would have. I didn't know that egg donations can be hard to find until a couple friends had fertility problems. By that time I was already in my 30s. Had I know that when I was younger, I would have donated them for anyone's use. I wouldn't feel like someone was raising my child-- too much depends on nuturing. Besides, my DNA isn't all that special.

13. I have heard that it isn't pleasant |
|
I had a friend who did it for money and she said that it wasn't fun. For that reason more than anything, I would only do it for my sister or perhaps a close friend who seemed really (and I mean really) upset about not being able to have a child.

14. Sure, if they were still any good... |
|
...I'm not exactly a model for clean living, though.
I know someone who made pretty decent money that way a couple of times. I don't have any sentimental attachment to 'em or anything; if I did I'd cry every time I had a period.

If I could, I would. I'm certainly not playing on using anymore of them. LoL. But I'm probably getting too old now (37). I'm not sure if they are much good anymore.

As Rev Acts said, there are so many children already needing someone to care for them. If it were a close friend or family member, I think I might.

18. No. As someone who can't have kids, I understand the pain of infertility, |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 10:05 PM by BlueIris
but I look down on people who feel so desperate and so entitled to try to create their own biological offingspring that they feel it is ethical, moral, correct and decent to take someone else's eggs in order to do so, especially considering the risks that a woman goes through via the hazardous hormone treatments necessary to allow her eggs to be harvested. I mean...there's nobody the infertile can adopt or foster? Their lives are so worthless without children to "fill a void" or whatever (which in and of itself is a disgusting reason to have children in my eyes) that they simply HAVE to attempt to be pregnant through that method? That insane attitiude, which is full of misogynist, self-hating entitlement mentality in my eyes (and makes me feel truly sorry for the children produced through the actions of such selfish, limited, callous, sorry excuses for "parents") isn't something I would ever facilitate. Makes me think of the aristocracy simply NEEDING to have an "heir of the body." Sick.
ETA: See the variation on the word "offspring"? Not a mistake. That's, at heart, is all I think the children produced by people who take other women's ova to produce "their own" kids, are to the people who feel entitled to have kids are to the people planning to "raise them." Whom I feel truly sorry for, too. They must have so little in their lives, so few meaningful pursuits or accomplishments to their names, and so little invested in their own sense of identity.

19. I very much wanted to |
|
but at the time I was considering it, I didn't have the time or the money to go through rounds of hormone shots, not to mention the extraction. I still am sorry I didn't do it, though, and now I am much too old.
