19. Pernell Roberts is still living.
The rest are all gone. And David Canary who joined the series after Roberts left. I actually remember Bonanza with David Canary in the cast more so than the older episodes.

8. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
My husband watches that every weekend. And I mean EVERY WEEKEND! (Though I have to admit, the episode with Hoss trying to fly was pretty funny). Did you ever notice that when one of the brothers meets a girl and starts to get serious about her, she meets an untimely death?

11. That was a theme of the movie "Diner" (or maybe "Tin Men")
They'd sit around in a diner and talk about how it was the kiss of death for any woman to become involved with any of the Cartwright men!

12. The Cartwrights were serial killers.
It's the only plausible explanation for the high death toll among girlfriends.

Just like Miss Marple and Jessica Fletcher. These biddies go to quiet little towns where nothing's happened for 100 years and suddenly there are bodies draped across every lawn. And nobody ever suspects the self-styled "detectives." "Murder She Wrote" my ass, "Murder She Committed" more like.

18. Oh, I'll have to rent that movie
Edited on Sun Oct-01-06 07:14 AM by zanne
Paul (my husband) and I are always betting the same five dollars on 1) When the girlfriend will die 2)How the girlfriend will die 3) How many minutes will it take for the brother to mourn.

9. Floog, when I was 9, Dan Blocker visited a neighbor and I didnt believe
it was really him. I mean the guy was in regular street clothes. To prove who he was, he went to the trunk of his car and pulled out a gun belt with two six shooters. I was convinced. He was an awfully nice guy and we really lost him too soon.

By all means bring back Bonanza. Only please leave Owen and Luke Wilson out of it.

10. Only as long as they keep...
...the original theme, with the lyrics sung by Lorne Green:

We chased lady luck till we finally struck - Bonanza
With a gun and a rope and a hatful of hope
We planted our family tree
We got ahold of a potful of gold - Bonanza
With a horse and a saddle and a rig full of cattle
How rich can a fella be?

On this land we put our brand
Cartwright is the name
Fortune smiled the day we filed
The Ponderosa claim

Here in the west we're livin' in the best - Bonanza
If anyone fights any one of us
He's gonna fight with me

Hoss and Joe and Adam know
Every rock and pine
No one works, fights, or eats
Like those boys of mine

Here we stand in the middle of a grand - Bonanza
With a gun and a rope and a hatful of hope
We planted our family tree
We got ahold of a potful of gold - Bonanza
With a houseful of friends where the rainbow ends
How rich can a fella be?

On this land we put our brand
Cartwright is the name
Fortune smiled the day we filed
The Ponderosa claim

Here in the west we're livin' in the best - Bonanza
With the friendliest, fightenist, lovingest band
That ever set foot in the promised land
And we're happier than them all
That's why we call it - Bonanza -
- Bonanza -
- Bonanza -

----------------------------

Demented genius.

13. That theme song was rank amateur compared to Rawhide.
I say we bring Rawhide back first!

Rawhide

Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'

Keep movin', movin', movin',
Though they're disapprovin',
Keep them doggies movin' Rawhide!
Don't try to understand 'em,
Just rope and throw and grab 'em,
Soon we'll be living high and wide.
Boy my heart's calculatin'
My true love will be waitin', be waiting at the end of my ride.

Move 'em on, head 'em up,
Head 'em up, move 'em out,
Move 'em on, head 'em out Rawhide!
Set 'em out, ride 'em in
Ride 'em in, let 'em out,
Cut 'em out, ride 'em in Rawhide.

Full Lyrics

Rollin', rollin', rollin'
Rollin', rollin', rollin'
Rollin', rollin', rollin'
Rollin', rollin', rollin'
Rawhide!

Rollin', rollin', rollin'
Though the streams are swollen
Keep them dogies rollin'
Rawhide!
Rain and wind and weather
Hell-bent for leather
Wishin' my gal was by my side.
All the things I'm missin',
Good vittles, love, and kissin',
Are waiting at the end of my ride

CHORUS
Move 'em on, head 'em up
Head 'em up, move 'em on
Move 'em on, head 'em up
Rawhide
Count 'em out, ride 'em in,
Ride 'em in, count 'em out,
Count 'em out, ride 'em in
Rawhide!

Keep movin', movin', movin'
Though they're disapprovin'
Keep them dogies movin'
Rawhide!
Don't try to understand 'em
Just rope, throw, and brand 'em
Soon we'll be living high and wide.
My hearts calculatin'
My true love will be waitin',
Be waitin' at the end of my ride.

Rawhide!
Rawhide!

14. I love that one too.
They both share the special magic that can only come from having been written by someone who's never seen a horse in their lives.

15. Sing this to the Bonanza tune:
Git it up, git it in, git it out
Gotta get my hair done.

16. They've tried, a couple of times...
...with John Ireland after Lorne Greene died, then with Ben Johnson...took place around 1900 or so...Ben is dead. Hoss of course was dead. Adam is off living in Australia--they couldn't interest Pernell Roberts--and Joe disappeared during the march ip San Juan Hill...and there were various dull younger generation types... It just didn't work out. Then of course there was a "prequel" series, that didn't exactly make anyone confuse it with John Ford...maybe it's just supposed to be what it's been...
