Anyone Here Have A Jack Russell Terrier?
Edited on Sun Oct-01-06 11:50 AM by AutumnMist
what is the trick with these dogs? Our Bailee will not stay in the back yard. I had no idea that the little buggers can clear a five foot fence like its not even there. Does anyone have any suggestions? We cant get a taller fence at the moment due to our finances. She jumps/climbs the fence to see if any of the kids are playing outside and then she will calmly walk back to our front door and bark to be let back into the house. She is a very sweet dog and like a little kid herself. I just worry about her being out in our neighborhood. People do not follow the posted 25 mile an hour rule here. Any ideas?

1. I've got two
Watson is twelve and Lucille is three. They are real escape artists. Are you sure they are going over the fence and not under it?

These are real high energy dogs. Even as they get older they still have a high degree of curiosity and intelligence. We planted vining rose bushes along our fences and they don't try to escape anymore. Now we have trouble keeping them out of the pool.

2. Yep, She Is Going Over The Fence
She climbs up the side of our tree, gets a foot hold on the side of the fence, and then goes over the top. The tree splits in the middle and one side of it grows over the fence at an angle. She figured out that she can climb it to get half way up the fence. LOL. Escape artist for sure. We have an acre backyard that we play with her in daily. We knew from doing some research that they were high energy dogs, but honestly I had no idea just how curious they can really be. And Jack's are very smart dogs. I have never seen anything like it. LOL. Thank you for your input. I do appreciate it.

4. Thanks, they are real sweethearts
You'll note I used the term "high energy" as opposed to "hyper". I've had a lot of people who ask, aren't they hyper. No they are not. Hyper is a yappy brainless barking rat. Jacks are very intelligent and love to play. Watson knows his left from his right and the difference between a stick and a ball. I wish my two legged kids were half as attentive.

I got a laugh about her climbing the tree to get over the fence. They are very ingenious animals.

5. Jack Russells: Too much energy in a too small package.
Jeez, they make me tired just to watch them.
Do they EVER sleep?

6. get one of the electric fences that have a sensor in the collar for
buzzing the dog when they get close to it.... very effective and humane.

7. J.R.S are a handful -- talk about a high energy dog.
you have to be more determined to keep them from their bad habits than they are.

and smart as a whip they are.

it really sound like you could use that higher fence.
