I wish I were quicker with comebacks |

A friend said something that really pissed me off. I was taken aback and didn't say anything. Now I'm just left to stew about it.
So what do you do in these situtations? Send an email after the fact? Ignore them?

1. I usually say "Oh, yeah?" |
|
"You and WHAT army?" Something snappy and witty like that. ;-) Know the feeling.

2. well, in this case, not acknowledging the comment might actually be ok |
|
Said person is making an accusation. The thing is none of her f'ing business one way or the other. So while I could offer evidence to disprove her theory, I don't think I need to. Anyways, this is an ongoing annoyance and essentially ruining a friendship.

3. "staircase wit" (the perfect retort occurring to one 5 minutes too late) |
|
I heard that somewhere, and I so know the feeling! You aren't alone. Your holding off firing in return doesn't mean the "friend" was any less of an asshole for what they said.
Good luck with whatever your eventual response, but don't let your discretion in the moment make you feel any less of yourself....

4. Here's a trick: when you don't have an immediate retort, |
|
kick them hard in the shin - they'll be hopping around and swearing for at least 5 minutes, which is plenty of time to come up with a decent comeback.*

6. Native Americans believe when a person insults them, and |
|
they respond with no response, then the insult bounces back onto the person giving the insult. I've used this (not as often as I should) and it really seems to work!

7. So I'm not slow. I'm channeling the Native American way. |

'Cause I have this problem also. AND I just found out my great-grandmother was full-blooded Cherokee. Wonder if it just is an innate thing?
