1. it's been a fantastic ride, SaveElmer!
I swear the only thing that kept me sane this summer while I was studying for the bar exam was keeping up with the Twins. I was too young to truly appreciate 87 and 91, so this has been my best year of baseball fandom ever! WEEEEEEEEHAAAAAA!

4. Bravo Twinkies!
I have several Minnesota co-workers, and they will be thrilled and justifiably very proud.

See ya in the Bronx real soon!

5. Congrats!
Hell of a second half — for both clubs. But in different senses.

In May and even June, it looked like Detroit might win 110 games.

Dodgers just beat the Giants and San Diego's leading Arizona 7-4 in the ninth, so it looks like the Dodgers and MaxiPads will be NL West co-champs — though San Diego will play the champion's NLDS schedule (starting Tuesday against St. Louis) by virtue of beating LA head-to-head.

Let October's games begin. :bounce:

9. Oh, Dog, that'd be sweet!
The Dodgers even play in the same yard they did in '65. :7

There's at least one parallel, too: The Dodgers won 41 of their last 60. Minnesota won 71 of its last 104. Both are .683 percentages.

Here's a memory of '65: Koufax pitching to Tony Oliva.

11. Koufax the greatest pitcher in the last 50 years IMO...and
To my mind Tony O definitely belongs in the Hall!!!

13. I'm surprised he's not in
Lifetime .304, three batting titles, led the league in hits five times, eight All-Star selections? Probably hurt him playing his whole career for a small-market club.

Koufax certainly gets my vote, but you won't convince fans of Clemens et al. If they'd seen Koufax, though... I mean, my Dog, the man seemed inhuman at times.

Take that '65 Series. Minnesota touched him up a bit in game two (two runs in the sixth), but he threw a four-hit shutout in game five and a three-hit shutout in game seven, on two days' rest. In 24 innings he allowed one earned run on 13 hits, walked five and struck out 29.

6. Woohoo!
It was a great day for Twins baseball fans.

I can't say the same about the Vikings, though. x(
