Cherokee Hauntings in Tennessee

Weird, I've had the same experience, but only once. I lived in Buffalo, TN a known Cherokee camp and dysentary death field. Same visitor I guess. I found this off of www.coasttocoastam.com.

I used to live in Mid-Central Tennessee along what is known as the Trail of Tears. If you are not familiar with the Trail of Tears, it was essentially the death march of the Cherokee race west of the Mississippii River. Along this route many natives died and were buried in mass graves in the forest. Unlike a lot of the nation, we respect these mounds, and do not develop, alter, or even step on the mounds while walking because of our profound respect these people deserve.

Knowing the trail went directly through my home's path, I went to the forest to look at the mounds and give thanks for their sacrifice. This occured at around sunset. I was about 13 at the time, and I was asking my great grandmother, who was a full Coyote clan Cherokee about the Trail of Tears and what I had done. She scolded me and told me to never return to the mounds or the souls will be upset of my presense.

That night, I awoke in the middle of the night to a woman looking down upon me from the foot of my bed. She was powdery-white with very long hair and extreme native-like features. She was absolutely beautiful. In my young mind I didn't feel fear, but grace. She smiled and disappeared.

For 8 years now, I have been plagued with the explanation with my visitor from the other world. Was she only re-enforcing what my great grandmother had said, or was she paying her own respects to the living?

Could you offer a word of your advice to my story?

1. i'll tell you what i think

i believe she visited you to let you know that the spirits were NOT angry with you and that they welcomed your wonder and respect

i have felt drawn to the mounds also and i do not know why

some of the cherokee teachings are hard to accept, for example, i do not find that owls bring me bad tidings, indeed, they have been a very positive force in my life and a bringer of good things, i could tell a long story here involving a barred owl but i'm not up to the typing

the cherokee are a people who change and grow and some of the traditional beliefs may not necessarily hold for the individual

i believe these spirits don't automatically condemn as spirits of a more conventional nation or tradition might, they go by what is in your heart and not the letter of the law

2. Coyote clan?

I've heard of Wolf Clan being among the seven Cherokee clans, but not Coyote Clan. :shrug:

In any event, the spirit here sounds benevolent.
