Is it illegal to record a telephone conversation |
|
received at your house without the caller's knowledge?
Thanks in advance.

2. Yep. In some states you can record your own conversation |
|
but not third parties. In some you have to tell the caller he's being recorded. See if your secretary of state has state code (laws) online and you can look it up. Ours does.

I just checked. South Carolina allows me to tape calls I receive without notifying the caller.
Seems only right to me.

3. It sort of depends on what you want to record it for. |

4. Some states yes, some no |
|
Not sure which ones are which.
But look for the number of consenting parties. Some states only require one.

6. Depends on if it's a one-party or two-party state |
|
If it's a one party state..then only one party speaking on the phone has to know..two party both have to be informed. I learned about it working for an electronics store and you'd be surprised how many people need to record phone calls.
I just did a quick google:

8. I don't think you'd be breaking the law by recording a phone |
|
conversation. You might not be able to use it in court, but I doubt there's a law actually saying you can't use the record function on your phone.
