http://www.fourfa.com/

As an adjective though, it's usually a derogatory term for someone who's overly emotional.

2. thanks, honey
I know a bit about the music but the adjective always has me scratching my head going 'is that good or bad', lol.

I wonder if anyone will post about Elmo...

And "Believe it or not, Slayer is not emo."

21. James Trafficant is not emo...wtf?
LOL.

Whoever did this did a great job. You know what it reminds me of? The tone of that famous Violent Femmes album. Wow. The whole tenor is right there.

So Tupac is emo, huh? Wonder how he'd feel about that, lol.

25. That video, and Emogame, and some of the stuff on fourfa.com...
Are pretty indicative that emo kids have a sense of humour and aren't whiney depressed kids as most people would love to believe. (Mind you there are a lot of whiney kids who think they are "emo" by virtue of acting whiney and depressed. they're more "douchebag" than "emo.")

"They're shinkickers. Them emo's is vicious."

There is so much good stuff on youtube lately it's unreal.

31. me either.
these videos are reminding me of alot of 90's pop culture...

Johnny Depp in Edwardscissorhands/Fairuza Balk in The Craft (especially that Hope is Emo video that Lefty Mom posted)
Wynona Ryder in Heathers. Wow, it's cool they actually have a name for this now...I could have used one when I was that age (instead of overly emotional freak, lol).

Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 09:46 PM by primate1
Take that fourfa site to the next level. I'm a nerd like that, haha. It'd be interesting though, especcially when you get into the transformation over the past couple years of what is perceived to be "emo."

35. if you do I want to read it.
those videos you linked were awesome. If people are going to this much trouble and expense to document and even satirize it then it's worth looking into. And to think I was called 'that weird girl' in college. Now they are legion, lol.

RandomKoolzip will probably kick my ass for approaching it from a sociological point of view though. I'll work the musical aesthetics in there as well somehow, haha.

4. "emotional", tends toward whiny, self-indulgent and navel-gazing
Emo kids look like a adrogynous reinvention of goth kids, minus the affectation of invincibility and any remaining hint of individuality. They all have the same black dye job and short hair cut with slightly-too-long bangs. Thier taste in music runs to whiny, self indulgent shit, like Bright Eyes.

12. Bright Eyes are good.
I'm not sure why they draw such a visceral reaction from some (who apparently haven't given them much of a listen, based on the ignorant opinions they spew). Listen to their "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning" album and tell me that's whiney and self-indulgent.

20. Bright Eyes is pretty good.
And can you argue with this song?

"When the President talks to God,
Are the conversations brief or long?
Does he ask to rape our women's rights?
And send poor farm kids off to die?
Does God suggest an oil hike?
When the President talks to God?

When the President talks to God,
Are the consonants all hard or soft?
Is he resolute on down the line?
Is every issue black or white?
Does what God say ever change his mind?
When the President talks to God?

When the President talks to God,
Does he fake that drawl or merely nod?
Agree which convicts should be killed?
Where prisons should be built and filled?
Which voter fraud must be concealed?
When the President talks to God?

When the President talks to God,
I wonder which one plays the better cop?
"We should find some jobs the ghetto's broke",
"No they're lazy George I say we don't,
Just give em' more liquor stores and dirty coke",
That's what God recommends.

When the President talks to God,
Do they drink near beer and go play golf?
While they pick which countries to invade,
Which Muslim souls still can be saved?
I guess God just calls a spade a spade,
When the President talks to God?

When the President talks to God,
Does he ever think that maybe He's not?
That that voice is just inside his head?
When he kneels next to the Presidential bed,
Does he ever smell his own bullshit?
When the President talks to God?

I doubt it."

"emo is kinda like 'goth' - like dressing all in black for being depressed - but more like when you dress to your emotions - whether you're depressed or not. But come to think of it - it's usually for people who're dressed in black...."

I'd just like to get his opinion on the current state of the nation. That's if he's allowed to know about it. It might be harmful to a minor at this point to know anything about it. :(

I want to be different than everyone else, so I'll be emo and listen to emo music. That way, I'm not a tool. I like indie music....

30. Emo's what you get when Ian MacKaye from Minor Threat
throws up.

From what I can tell, the shit started in the mid-80's with The Smiths and germinated in the early 90's with bands like Sensefield, Shudder to Think, Smashing Pumpkins, and Samiam...then it got stylized. I cannot, for the life of me, tolerate crap like Bright Eyes. They make my teeth hurt.
