Heard any music today or yesterday?
I've heard:

Bonnie "Prince" Billy - The Letting Go (I might give it an A+! It's not nice and tidy folk, but it is beautiful and quite emotional)

The Cardigans - Super Extra Gravity (I'm a fan, and this is the Cardigans at their best - A+)

The Lemonheads - self-titled (just enough change of pace to make this a great power pop CD - A or A+)

I started TV On The Radio's Return to Cookie Mountain and will finish today - while some songs seem like they need to be fleshed out more, the concept is coming together. It's at least a good CD, and unique.

Heard these at Full Album Listening Party:

The Killers - Sam's Town (while not quite as good as Hot Fuss, the Springsteen/U2 sound is combined with their new wave touches, making this more than a copy. The end of the CD is a little weak, but there are quite a few gems. B+)

Beck - The Information (maybe it's just not my style as much, but the CD seems a bit disoriented. Still some fine Beck moments, but the hit radio goes down with all these songs. B)

And you're right. We have exchanged faves in the past. I also like Cibelle and Ane Brun, a couple of female vocalists I've discovered lately.

Haven't heard Cibelle yet. I heard all the samples from As Tall As Lions's new self-titled CD - sounds a little like the Flaming Lips? But better IMO - thanks for the recommendation.

21. OK, today I haven't heard much
Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 01:20 PM by mvd
I finished the TV On The Radio - definitely a good CD, but not quite as praise worthy as Yo La Tengo's new one.

I also re-listened to 5 songs from Meg & Dia's Something Real (because they are pop/rock,) but they didn't sound any better this time. I did like "Nineteen Stars" - the arrangement and melody fits them much better. They have to re-structure their music to become as good as The Veronicas or Lillix.

Right now I'm listening to John Frusciante's album "Shadows Collide With People".

23. I don't think the Beck is bad
It just has a LOT of funk this time, and some more rapping - I'm not a fan of that style. Still, "Soldier Jane" is pretty, and "Think I'm In Love" is classic Beck.

27. I remain obsessed with Joanna Newsom's 'Ys'
Pitchfork's error has certainly made me a convert (I didn't - & still don't - think much about The Milk-Eyed Mender) and I look forward to owning a legitimate copy next month.

Currently playing Tom Waits' The Heart of Saturday Night which you can't really go wrong with!

39. Much better IMO
Her vocals throughout are more tempered (well, you know what I mean) & when she does become screechy or sharp it (generally) services the song, rather than just coming across as unnecessary. Worth giving her another shot when it comes out.

43. Bought it yesterday. I think it might well be a grower.
Hell, I hated "Somebody Told Me" when I first heard it, because it struck me initially as so very derivative of New Wave (one of my favourites now, LOL), and the whole of Hot Fuss took its time for me to really start to enjoy.

And with Sam's Town, here we go again. I didn't care for the new single at first, but now I'm starting to really like it. And the rest of the album isn't turning me off so far.

Typically my desert island albums are ones that I couldn't stand or "didn't get" at first. So we'll see how the new Killers pans out.

38. Right now I'm listening to "Sweet Dreams" by Tori Amos
"lie, lie, lies ev'rywhere," said the father to the son
your peppermint breath gonna choke 'em to death,
daddy watch your little black sheep run
he got a knives in his back ev'ry time he opens up
you say, "he got be strong if he wanna be a man"
mister i don't know how you can have

sweet dreams, sweet dreams

land, land of liberty
we're run by a constipated man
when you live in the past
you refuse to see when your
daughter come home nine months pregnant
with five billion points of light
gonna shine 'em on the face of your friends
they got the earth in a sling
they got world on her knees
they even got your zipper between their teeth

sweet dreams, sweet dreams

you say, you say, you say that you have 'em
i say that you're a liar
sweet dreams, sweet dreams

go on, go on, go on and dream
your house is on fire
come along now

well, well, summer wind been catching up with me
"elephant mind, missy you don't have
you forgettin' to fly,
darlin', when you sleep"
i got a hazy, lazy susan
takin turns all over my dreams
i got lizards and snakes runnin' through my body.
funny how they all have my face

sweet dreams, sweet dreams
