Getting your mail and finding a package from Camel. Two free packs of Camel Lights Wide and a nice West Coast Choppers lighter.

It's the simple things in life.

1. I love getting the mail

Even though it's mostly bills and solicitations (and campaign ads right now), there's always the possibility that there will be some surprise there.

The best one was the day I went to the box and found a pick-up slip for a package. The sender's name was unrecognizable and the place of origin was Shanghai, China! Now I know no one in Shanghai and had no idea at all what it could possibly be so I grabbed the slip and drove to the post office dying of curiosity.

I was told that the package must still be on the truck because it wasn't in the back so I left, figuring I'd have to wait in anticipation for another day. However, as I left I spied the mail truck pulling in so I chased him down and he gave me my package which I opened right in the parking lot.

Only to find a beautiful jade opium pipe, banded with silver in a delicate butterfly patter. Really gorgeous. And no note of explanation whatsoever.

It was easy to figure out, though. It had to be my best friend who is a nut and always doing the unexpected. But what a neat thing to find in my mailbox!

I wonder what I might find today...
