1. I love the song Totally Wired. |

Anytime I hear someone say they're "wired" I think of that song.

I love the Fall too...actually got to see them back in 1989...a very 'sparkly' show...
Lyrically, I'm an idiot...I listen to music for the music, not the lyrics (and I know I'm not in the majority here). I can probably name a dozen songs I listen to for the lyrics, otherwise, the music is what moves me (probably why I like techno a lot...).

7. Lyrics are puzzling things |
|
I recall reading, in a review of The Infotainment Scan, the suggestion that the music of the Fall is usually "put together sideways." I have not really encountered any of their material that suggests otherwise. But sideways is good. I assume a lot of it stream-of consciousness. Kinda like free associating on a theme.
Some of it kinda-sorta makes sense.
"They say damp records the past If that's so I've got the biggest library yet"
The preceding lyric, from "No Bulbs" (I think?)seems to refer to an idea that Colin Wilson wrote about, suggesting that ghosts are something like tape recordings of past events, and that these recordings take place in damp regions and/or along ley lines. It's a rather fun way to state that his apartment is a leaky place, as I understand it.
Although much of it is perplexing. What is being chanted over and over in the song Guest Informant? Why is MTV waiting for the Blonde Girl? Is Pat the Trip Dispensor the Jazz Butcher? And so on.
I need to dig through my records now. Haven't listened to those Fall Cd's in a while. :)
