Non-racist ethnic ponderings

Here's mine (obviously not a big deal, but it's something that's been nagging at me for awhile):

What's with Asian ladies and their umbrellas on sunny days? Are they allergic to the sun? They bust them out to walk from the store to the car, or where I work, for their three minute stroll from their classroom to the parking lot, and if they have somehow found themselves sans store bought portable sun shield, they'll improvise with notebook paper or whatnot even on mild days, or when it's not yet 9am. Will they spontaneously erupt in a rash of deadly melanoma lumps should a ray of sun land upon their delicate skin? Just wondering.

1. In some Asian cultures, tanning isn't considered attractive

I'm not a tanner myself and find them unattractive, but they just seem a bit over zealous about the whole thing. I'm starting to suspect my city is being invaded by a legion of Chinese vampires.

But I think back in the good old days in the US before people decided that being tan made you look healthy Caucasian ladies very rarely ventured out in the sun without a parasol or bonnet or huge hat. Nothing like a bit of sun to mess up a peaches-and-cream complexion
