I'm an angry geek who hates high-fructose corn syrup.
Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 10:19 PM by Zhade
I wrote this a couple of days ago, because I was pissed when I found out that they're putting high-fructose corn syrup in Gatorade now (yeah, I know Coca-Cola owns Gatorade and as a good liberal I shouldn't support that company, but I still liked freezing it when it got hot in my tiny apartment).

This is intended as hip-hop, part of the burgeoning genre known as "nerdcore" or "geeksta rap". Most here will not know the genre; I'm just looking to see if this conveys what I was feeling when I wrote it.

Enjoy! I command it! :D

HFCS

yeah I'm fat and diseased, all the toxins proceed
to alleviate my need for the size small of the t
thanks to the evil mcclown and alla his disciples greed
pumping hfcs downtown into each and every artery

liquid death, cancer cola, almost worse than ebola
at least that kills you quicker and don't rot the molars
corps sell double-wide coffins for the anti-granola
while super-sizing their way to slave-sweated payola

so i hit stop and dropped the pepsi like cops on a rave
it tasted like sweet epilepsy ya can't help but crave
the addiction's an affliction like those drawn to the grave
in an anne rice book before she took up bein a slave

Then I think sports drink gatorade's fine at first
slush it up, watch scrubs quench that deep-down body-thirst
but the money motherfuckers in management just made it worse
traded electrolyte honey for a profit-motive curse

//
CHORUS
i hate that the good things always end
how the CEOs and wall street can't comprehend
that it's never clever or better in the end
poisoning customers you should befriend

I'm sicka wal-mart job rape and slave wages
that kinda life brings the strife of angry rages
at bills that can't be paid and lost pages
of the life story we should be livin outta the cages
//

unnatural high-fruit-sugar starch syrup
they don't consume that kinda shit over in europe
though the french go in for horse minus the stirrups
they know intaking garbage outputs foul hiccups

your liver takes a hit like jabba's men into the pit
klatuu barada nikto companies don't give a shit
they watch obeseity spread like smoke over a spit
and cackle and grapple coin takin every little bit

but i got out fast cast my cash toward the real
organic supaplanet now that's my high ideal
trader joes price is always low and holds real appeal
healthy dining took the shine offa the corporate meal

now when i hit daisy i'm less lazy and more whole
she's got a glass ass and i'm always fillin her bowl
with the sweetest longbottom leaf i ever stole
from suaroman's orcs after i aided frodo in his goal

//
CHORUS
i hate that the corps don't ever spend
a dime to promote a healthier trend
their hi-cal gravy train's gonna end
it's a dying system they refuse to mend

I'm sicka wal-mart job rape and slave wages
that kinda life brings the strife of angry rages
at bills that can't be paid and lost pages
of the life story we should be livin outta the cages

2. I hate the shit myself
I still drink Coke(I know I know)and it tastes like crap sense they switched.

One of the few things about the invasion from the south is that some of the bodegas here sell Cokes bottled in Mexico. With real sugar. You can taste the difference.

Time for the tinfoil hat!!!
I am half convinced the new coke/coke classic debacle was really a way for Coke to hide the switch to corn syrup.Cause if they had just come out and made a switch people would have noticed. So what they did was put out the new coke with a lot of corn syrup then when they reintroduced Classic Coke with less corn syrup, people wouldn't notice the change.

I'm probably a little delusional but thats my story and I'm sticking to it

4. Be interesting to research the timing on that. You might be onto something.
Though...I really dislike the phrase "invasion from the south". They're not invaders.

But yeah, I've found Coke with real sugar here and there in L.A., you're quite correct on that score.

3. YOU ROCK!
Love it.

I HATE HFCS, too. I lived in England for four years, just got back here last summer, and I CANNOT BELIEVE how it's in EVERYTHING. It's in almost nothing over there. Their Cokes have real sugar in 'em.

 :nuke:  :nuke:

This is a real pet peeve of mine.

6. another thing to think about
Hasn't obesity and diabetes rates gone up in the last twenty years?
Didn't hfcs start showing up in everything about twenty years ago?

7. And all of the other ingredients were good with you before then?
LMFAO! It is a fucking processed laboratory chemical concoction.

8. No - does this negate my point? No.
It's unnatural, processed by the liver - there's a host of problems with it.

(Thanks for kicking the thread, though!)

10. Pepsi owns Gatorade. Coke owns Powerade.
Here's a nice concise history of Gatorade:
