Getting 2 dogs from Shelter - Need 2 cute names.
My best friend is picking up two dogs from the shelter today - some kind of little poodle crosses - one is 6 and one is 8 - both males. They are at the vet today for medical stuff they need (one has a bad ear infection and both are crawling with fleas) and then the groomer there will give them both a bath. They have always been together so this is good - they will still be together.

She is not liking the names I'm coming up with: Fife and Drum or Bed and Breakfast.

Do you guys have any other good ideas?

18. there is that - maybe they're very used to their old names
and a change would be hard for them to accommodate. However, I suggest Sherlock and Holmes. Or, Jury and Melrose (from one of my favorite mystery series by Martha Grimes, though her books have fallen off in quality lately...)

Or, if they're brainiac dogs, Watson and Crick (DNA); or Tesla and Marconi.

However, I've heard that Tesla and Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) were very good friends... a nice mix of two very intelligent people: Tesla and Twain.

22. I don't know what the real story is on these dogs.
Edited on Thu Oct-05-06 11:04 AM by leftyladyfrommo
Why would someone have two dogs and keep them for years and then dump both of them? Apparently they look they were groomed not too long ago. And no names were listed. From what the vet said it doesn't look they were in great shape. Its hard to know because their owner could have died or gotten sick.

My friend lost her dog months ago and has been looking for the perfect dog ever since. I just figured she would never find a dog at all. She was pretty shook up when she lost her other dog.

And then she called and said she had found these dogs at the shelter. She is really excited - has bought food and toys and brushes. She is already to go here. They are checking the fence to be sure there aren't any holes anywhere.

She is 71 so I think it is a really good thing that she was able to find two older dogs - not quite so active and full of it.

I have 3 rescued border collies - all of them really active - so hopefully I can help her out if she needs it.

23. It is great that she's interested in adopting older dogs.
Two of my rescue cats were adults when I got them. I spent 6 months going through baby books calling them every name in the book trying to find the names they would answer to. No luck.

I ended up having to rename them. It took a year but they learned their new names and now answer to them. :)

25. My cats never learned their names - they just come to the sound
of food.

I found a mother and three kittens and just kept them. But learning their names when there were four of them was just too confusing. (The mother and one cat died last year - both were old but I still have 2 of the sisters)

They have names but even I get confused trying to use them.

59. I got a 13-year-old female cat
from the county shelter (not the humane society) six months ago when I finally moved to a place that allowed animals; her owner had had her from birth, apparently, but had to give her and her other cat up due to her children's allergies. She's a real sweetheart, still pretty active for her age, and I'm so glad I found her; it breaks my heart to think of what would have happened to her if I hadn't found her since she'd already been there nearly two months and it was starting to get crowded.

She was already named, though, and had had the same name since birth, so I'm pretty much stuck with it. Her name is Spitz, which is really strange to me; I wonder if she was named after a friend or something.

60. Don Camillo & Peppone
http://www.italica.rai.it/eng/principal/multimedia/dvd/doncamillo.htm

The literary world of Giovanni Guareschi is set in Brescello, in 1950s Reggio Emilia, shortly after the end of the Second World War. Don Camillo and Peppone symbolize the clash between two opposing cultures which, precisely in the Fifties, crossed swords as they defended two different philosophies of living. On the one side was the traditional social context of Catholic Italy, staunch supporters of the Democristiano party, represented by parish priest Don Camillo, and on the other the revolutionary communist model, represented by the town Mayor, Peppone. But the political wrangling, which in real life was fierce and went on for decades, in Guareschi's novels becomes a way of reflecting in a good-natured, fun, sarcastic way, upon the anthropological models of the average Italian. When all is said and done, Don Camillo and Peppone are two sides of the one coin: two Italians with hearts of gold who, behind the facade of hostility, actually need one another. Fellow-villagers, they understand and respect one another: so, often split when it comes to local affairs, they are united in the face of outside adversities. They represent an ante litteram model of the "compromesso storico" (historical compromise).

And when people asked her what she was doing, she could reply "Just taking care of This and That." (Not as funny if they're grown up and don't need a lot of looking-after ... in fact, the only reason why I thought it might be amusing is that I'm sleep-deprived from living in a house with a very boisterous puppy, with a constant background of barking, howling, and my landlady yelling at her kid to "feed and walk the dog like you promised!")
