and when it comes to the human experience, I try not to be surprised any longer. (doesn't stop me from being surprised, however...)

But one thing I do know: Sex on its own, there is nothing there. Or I have yet to find somebody who can prove that the combination doesn't create a special meaning, that sex on its own cannot do. Sex on its own is not fulfilling, nor is it special, and it cheapens one's self. That is what I discovered, and it could be worse - some people who don't discover it end up getting diseases, or giving diseases to people who know the difference yet don't deserve it.

My 'obtuse' thread is for a somewhat different context, but with luck none of it will matter soon.

and sex for its own sake has been something i've had problems with in the past.

but i don't feel much anymore, so the mere physical act is often easy enough to engage in. its not meaningless when you stop trying to inject meaning into the whole thing.

that isn't to say that i have never been in love. but even that "special" feeling wears off by month 3 when my demon parade inevitably starts to scare off or make emotionally distant any partner i've ever been with.

i've learned to guard my feeling closely.

actually, the best experience i have had is with a female friend from high school.

we were never involved for the longest time, got involved for about six months or so in '98, and it ended badly, but still remained friends.

we see each other sporadically, and always end up sleeping together. it isn't a big deal. but the lines are clearly defined, the boundaries are there, and we know each other that well.
