Poll question: if you had the money, would you become a space tourist?
the going rate is something like $20 million - although i have read that for an extra $15 million you can also take a 90 minute space walk.

it's a pretty selfish thing to do but if i had the money to do it, i would in a heartbeat. and if something went wrong and i died, then what a hell of a way to go, dying in space, floating endlessly through eternity or burning up in the atmosphere, pretty cool.

although to make up for my selfishness i would probably donate an equal amount to some charity or something like that. but shit i wouldn't hesitate to go.

so if you could afford it, would you be a space tourist?

1. Nope.
Sounds fascinating, but I don't have an interest in it.

Sort of like skydiving.

3. Absolutely.
If I had the money, I wouldn't even give it a second thought, and I'd do the space walk. Honestly, could anything be more exciting?

5. With great force of will I have to say No

I would very much WANT to do it and I'd very much be willing to take the risk. Astronaught was my childhood dream career.

But it's just to selfish and irresponsibile. I equate it to the development of Sagarmatha tourism by people, many who have never done any serious climbing, who can afford the about $20K to be led up the mountain.

On Edit: This is all based on the current state of space tourism. If I live to see the day where going up to orbit is equivlent to say a trip to the Grand Canyon I might do it. That would mean the infrastructure is developed enough to not require excessive resources to get me there and the destination is designed to deal with an inexperienced 'sight seer' without threat to the environment (easier in space, but there are some things to consider like what else is going on in the station or near orbit) or others.

8. No
That seems like such a huge waste of money to me.

I would buy some property somewhere, instead.

But, to each his own, you know?

12. Nope, I'm a home body earthling at heart.
I'd prefer to buy a nice home and landscape the property, then bank the other 19 million dollars. I'd maybe buy some moderately priced multitrack recording software, a good effects processor and build a mini music studio in one room of the home. I'd also build my cats the playroom I have always dreamed of building for them. I don't know if I have mentioned the room with the big piece of driftwood (picture a tree with no leaves laying sideways in a room,) plenty of tunnels and toys and cat-safe plants to romp and play and make a full fledged mess all for my amusement. Other than that, I'd just live like normal. If the car went caput, I'd get one of those Yari cars that costs like $2 and runs practically forever. That's all I want for Christmas, Santa. :)

13. I wanted to be an astronaut since I was seven years old.
I'm now 50. I wasn't born with the smarts for that particular job (sigh) so I've had to settle for watching NASA TV and drooling (a lot.)

I would go in a heartbeat if I could, but I can't see spending that kind of money when there is so much need here on earth.
My conscience wouldn't let me do it. But the rest of me would be begging my conscience to let me go. LOL.
(As for the possibility of death, I don't have a fear in my body about that part. Space. The ultimate E-ticket ride!)

(I've watched the Shuttle and the Space Station fly over my house. That's as close as I'll ever get.)

15. This comes to mind...
Fifteen -- Choice Of A New Generation -- Perfection

The brain tends to divide between what's yours and what is mine
And what it believes to be wrong and right
The brain does not seem to know that we all share the same home
And existence is a fact it's not a right
The land is the land, the sky is the sky, the water belongs to all of us
And I can find no reason to mutilate our mother with fences and borders
And obsessive thinking, of proving our individuality
Yeah, so what can you do when your fellow man, criminalizes your plan
For getting by, and the presence of your body means you've acted
Irresponsibly, and you've failed to be born before all the world was taken
Yeah, and you got nowhere to call home, on a globe, 22,000 miles around
And gravity breeds illegality cause it'll always bring you down
On someone else's piece of ground
The brain seems to think with enough manipulation
The brain could be master of the sea, the land, the sky
The poor little brain could not seem to realize
That no measure of intelligence could ever improve upon
The land is the land, the sky is the sky, the water belongs to all of us
And I can find no reason to mutilate our mother with fences and borders
And obsessive thinking, of proving our individuality
Yeah, we can put a man on the moon, but that won't help us
When the ground's too poisoned and there ain't water enough
Left to grow our food
And rhinoplasty and transplanted hair will keep us sexy
As we slowly die from poisons in the air we breathe
Yeah, we can build a town in half a day, blow each other all away
Go home latter on that day, watch it all on the evening news
Despite our age of information, It won't help us without wisdom
And all our ingenuity, has only brought us to the brink of Annihilation
Technology cannot replace responsibility
And 55(m.p.h.) don't justify our own poisoning
And progress seems like backwards lies, cause we all started off with paradise
So leave your mark on our world by leaving no mark at all(moreno)
Maybe it's security Maybe it's simple amibition
Maybe it's insanity Maybe it's just good old tradition

I couldn't justify the pollution.
