1. Here's my theory

A group of people greatly affected by tragedy in their life find a remote part of the world where they can hideaway their village away from society and live the peaceful life and raise their family. To protect the village they use mythical creatures that haunt the woods that surround them. This works until one day someone actually stumbles out of the village and realize their is life beyond the village.

Wait - that's the plotline from M. Night Shamalayan's "The Village" too!
