Help - good wishes needed - Moggy snuck out last night...
He's an elderly indoor kitty who usually wouldn't go very far into the backyard when he usually makes a run for the door, but last night, somehow he and his brother managed to get the back door open after 10 when everyone went to bed...
And now he's gone. DH woke up around 2am and saw the back door wide open and both cats gone. He went into the backyard and Willy came trundling up to the porch, but Moggy was nowhere to be seen.

We may be in the middle of the city, but there's coyotes in the canyon off our backyard. And he has no fear of dogs. We made a quickie circuit of the back and upper part of the canyon, calling him, but no luck, no sound.

This morning, still no kitty. The next-door "neighborhood n'ere-do-well" (who we get along with pretty well) and stays up all night smoking back by the canyon thinks he may have seen Moggy somewhere around midnight, so he may have gone to ground in someone's backyard overnight.
I made up mondo flyers and came home at lunch to post them and drop them off on porches, but still, no kitty.

He's got absolutely no outdoor sense. And since he never goes very far, we don't have a collar on him...

So please, some good thoughts to bring my baby boy home. He may be a pisser sometimes, but he's a big old soft, loving slipper kitty...

4. Update
Disappearance T-20 hours -

I was talking with one of the neighbors who had just come home about Moggy and the conversation shifted to "Jack" - another neighbor up at the corner. Jack was an old-timer - one of the first owners in the neighborhood from the 1940's - a sweet old man who looked after everyone's kids and pets and who had just passed a couple weeks ago - and his house was empty.

When suddenly, out of the darkness from around Jack's porch was a familiar siamese-like yowl...

Moggy's back. It looks as if he had gotten lost-and probably scared of the coyotes - and had hid out at Jack's where there were no unfamiliar people or scary, noisy dogs until he heard his momma.

Whew. Thanks, everyone for your good thoughts. With all the coyotes (and raccoons, feral dog packs, etc) around, I was terrified that he had a run-in last night and was no longer amongst us.

Haele

7. He can still show up...have faith ...and tuna!!

My "Bear" went AWOL for 3 days once. We didn't know it until we got back from vacation. I assumed the worst. I thought we'd never find him. And, just as you fear, I thought he didn't have any outdoor sense.

Finally, we retrieved him by hitting a can of tuna with a fork. We heard a meowing sound from a storm drain.
When we finally lured him out of the storm drain, that cat was huge! When I asked the vet why he was so big, and how he managed to gain weight while in a storm drain, she simply answered, "Small rodents." The only injury was a small mark on his eye, which the vet said could have been from a fight or the stress. That was over 4 years ago, and our Mr. Bear is still doing great!

We now make sure all cat-sitters keep a closer watch on our "Mr Houdini" when we are away.

I hope your kitty comes back soon...or you find him somewhere, cose by, like we did!

Here's a pic of him:
