According to Alexa, they have way more traffic than DU. I could not believe it and still don't. Maybe I was reading the charts wrong but I dont think so.

What Alexa actually measures is the number of people visiting your site who have installed the Alexa Toolbar, a piece of Windows-only spyware, onto their computers.

If you're a Mac user, you're not counted. There are a LOT of Mac users on DU, probably at least an order of magnitude greater than the number of Mac users on FR.

If you're a Windows user who won't install Alexa, you're not counted either. DUers are far less likely to install spyware on purpose than FR users are.

Free Republic has more Alexa-using traffic than Democratic Underground. How's that compare to something like HitBox or a plain old site counter? I don't know. You KNOW Jim Robinson is gathering raw statistics somehow, just like Skinner, Elad and EarlG do here. Will you ever see the numbers? I wouldn't expect anyone to release his raw numbers.

In terms of actual traffic going to the two sites, they're probably very close.

So they brought their own porta potties and had scores of threads and messages ABOUT the porta potties and how they had to stand guard over them to make sure the liberal hippies didn't use them.

Then, there was an incident at the same time where a bunch of them lost their trucks at the rally... they were towed.

And the porta potties went missing too......

Freepers have VERY short attention spans. Because of this, they log on and off all day long.
One thread an hour is all they can try to understand. Their sole purpose in going to FR is to have their brainwashing reinforced.

DU'ers on the other hand, come here for hours on end, to be educated, to discuss, and to have some fun.
