Hi everyone,

I'll be pitching my book to an editor from Avon tomorrow afternoon at 3:40 PM PST. If you could please send good thoughts, prayers, white light, whatever you believe in, I would really appreciate it!

Thank you,
Julie

21. Okay, here's what happened
The conference I attended was doing "group pitching," which means that groups of anywhere from 2-6 people were meeting with an editor or an agent. The editor asked us to sum up the plot of our book in one line, then told us to send her the first three chapters and a synopsis. Usually, I'd be jumping up and down over this. The reason why I'm just not quite so excited? She mentioned that she's looking for paranormals (romances with elements such as vampires, etcetera,) and historicals. I don't write either. When I told her the genre I write in (single title contemporary,) she said, "You'd better be an excellent writer, because we're not really interested in those right now."

EWWW.

I'll send in my three chapters and my synopsis. I'm wondering how this is going to go.

Julie

23. Selling single title fiction is hard as hell these days.
But it can be done. So much about getting published is a matter of luck and the editor's mood when s/he looks at your work, plus how easy it'll be for the chain book stores to know what shelf to put a given book on. So little is about the quality of the manuscript.

22. Avon published two of my books ...

An excellent experience, good people -- which is more than I can say for the publishing house that handled my other books. I wish you and your book every good thing possible.
