Spotting in a twin pregnancy is normal, or so I'm told. |
|
But it still scared me to death earlier today. I had my first ever "spotting/bleeding" incident on Thursday night, for which I blamed "Onyx the Wonder Kitten" using my belly as a launching pad -- I think it was in revenge for her having gotten "fixed" last week -- and everything ended up being fine, so I started breathing again (after the emergency ultrasound and an evening at the local hospital verified both babies were doing fine), but today's incident didn't really have any "cause" behind it.
I'm only 12 and 1/2 weeks along. This is scary! I'm drinking water, laying on the couch, and my beloved husband is being great. I called the doctor who was very reassuring -- this is "normal" and "one of the most common calls we get" -- but let me use the word: SCARY!!!
Send some good energy my way, please. "Cheese" & "Crackers" seem to be fine, but I'm one step away from being a wreck! :)
Best, Ida

I spotted all through my first pregnancy. I was only carrying one baby though.

19. I didn't know enough to be afraid. |
|
I just thought it was normal. This was in 1979. I did ask my Mom, and she said "ya that happened to me too a couple of times." She had six kids so I just relaxed and bitched about having to wear a pad after years of using Tampax. I don't think we knew enough to be afraid.

is my best advice. At 39, I frequently spotted lightly with my daughter. I carried her to term and she was perfect. Talk to your beautiful belly, put your feet up and think positive thoughts.
Here's some good energy. Congratulations on TWINS!

9. Thank you! I'm glad you're daughter came out "perfect" -- |
|
I guess this is "normal" but its still scary! We've lost three pregnancies prior to this one, but all MUCH earlier!

4. I spotted with both of my full term pregnancies. |
|
I do think it's pretty common, and usually not serious, but they always check just to make sure. I know it's hard. I was a wreck, too. The first time it happened, at 8 weeks, I was convinced I was miscarrying.
Sending plenty of positive vibes your way.

12. Thank you -- that was exactly the first terrified thought that went |
|
through my head both on Thursday, and tonight; we've lost three pregnancies prior to this, but all much earlier. I was actually starting to think we were "out of the woods" and beginning to relax. Now I'm starting to think I "jinxed" things when I told my sister it was okay to start thinking "baby shower" thoughts! LOL! Anything to stay in control -- it must be "my fault" somehow! Doh! :)

14. LOL! Actually, during the emergency ultrasound on Thursday night, |
|
I commented that I was suddenly feeling nauseus -- pretty common the last few weeks I'm afraid. Anyway, a few moments later we got to see "Baby B" who was dancing a jig for all he/she was worth! The little legs were kicking like crazy! I'm now convinced the "sudden nausea" attacks are happening when the babies decide to dance! :)

10. Spotting is frequent in multiple pregnancies... |
|
And if your doctor is reassuring, that means a lot. Yes, I know it is damn scary.

16. Thanks, gaot! I know your family has been through this before! |
|
I've been meaning to ask -- how far along were your nieces/nephews when they were born, and how big were they (if its okay to ask)?
I've been reading the Barbara Luke book, and its been very helpful, but its also a little scary in an empowering kind of way. "These are the bad things that can happen -- these are the things you can do to prevent them." :)

26. The triplets were born six weeks early... |
|
The boys weighed 5 lbs. 6 oz., and 4 lbs. 13 oz. The girl weighed 4 lbs 8 oz. All three were home approximately two weeks after their birth.
Good luck, Ida!

11. Pregnancy is such a long haul, and it's often scary. |
|
The "what ifs" can really mess with your peace of mind. As others have said, spotting is common. Still, I know when it happens to YOU, you can't help but think the worst. Hang in there!

I appreciate all the good wishes -- I'm hoping I can "relax and enjoy being pregnant" soon, but so far its been more like the flu, intermixed with scary stuff.

21. I spotted several times during my pregnancy. |
|
The first time scared the hell out of me, so I empathize with you, Ida. And given your prior history, fear is to be expected. Like you, I called the doc, they checked me out, said everything was okay, that it was a normal thing for most women. So that made me feel a lot better.
P.S. My daughter loved to swing from my ribcage (ouch!), and then do the rumba at night when I laid down to go to sleep.

I swear my son spent the last 2 months with his head braced on one side of my ribcage and his feet pushing against the other side. The only time he'd let go was when he needed to sit on my bladder for awhile.

I was positive we had lost him. He came after a couple of devastating losses. Remind yourself that you are 12 and a half weeks, which is a VERY good thing! :bounce: I spent an entire 8 months freaking out and did not believe I was going to have a baby until they placed him in my arms...
 May the rest of your pregnancy be filled with JOY! :)

29. I'm 36 weeks along right now, and I had spotting around |
|
12 weeks. It very well maybe left-over from implantation, and can be perfectly normal, especially if it's that "old blood" color. Mine went off and on for a couple of weeks, and usually after a bowel movement. Just relax and let hubbie wait on you hand and foot!
Congrats on the twins!

Judging my the fact that the kid's reading me a story right now (Click Clack Moo: Cows that Type) I think it wasn't a big deal. At the time I was scared to death though.
