I think my niece cancelled her MySpace account because of me.
I feel awful, like I violated her privacy.

I wanted to see her site, so I asked for her address, she gave it to me on Friday.

This morning, it's cancelled.

She's 18, there was a reference to (GASP!) underage drinking. This girl is a fucking SAINT compared to the shit I did by age 18.

I called her today to apologize, she's like, no it wasn't you, I go on a different site now, it's no big deal. I told her I would never tell her personal shit to her parents----the whole reason I went to her site was because we have lots in common (music, tv, movies, politics) and I wanted to check it out.

I feel terrible, when I am the cool aunt!

1. Don't feel bad. I don't understand people that post on the internet for
the entire WORLD to read and then get pissed when someone reads it.

Happened to my fiance recently and I asked her what she expected when she posted it ONLINE?!?! That people WOULDN'T read it?

2. I really doubt it was because of you
Anyone who knew her name could find her page - I've found tons of people I know on there because you can search by a real name. So if her parents wanted to check up on her, they could and I'm sure she knows it.

If she gave you the address, she knew what you'd see. Believe her - it wasn't you.

3. Is she looking for a job?
There was an article in the NYT about how employers are culling myspace.com pages of perspective employees. If they see or read something there some will rescind a job offer. Maybe she did it for that reason. I've warned my nieces and nephews to be careful of what they put out there.

6. psssst: it was started by an advertising site.
You know that story about "Tom"? Total BS. The site was made by some advertising company. That's why Murdoch wanted it- and it hasn't changed at all since he bought it.
