Another oil painting, finished about 3 months ago.

The painting was swayed by Gerhard Richter inasmuch as I looked at his candle paintings to see how he handled the flame. But where he was at that point projecting photographs onto canvas and painting to match the projection, I eyeballed. And the flames are quite different in each method. Wouldn't say that my method is superior, as Gerhard Richter can paint circles around anybody. Just sayin'.

The wax melted over the edge of the metal by being in the sun on the front porch over the course of a summer.

Where did you learn how to paint (if you don't mind me asking)?

7. The reflections are always fun.

My mom started me drawing when I was about four or five, and I drew a lot all the way through high school. Picked it up off and on in the years intervening (I'm now 45). Began to learn some oil painting methods about 5 years ago from an old beloved crank who is an adjunct prof at a local college and who teaches during the weekend in the upstairs of an art supply shop nearby. It's fun. If you want to do some painting, find somebody in your area who can teach you what you want to learn.

You feel a sense of motion with the wax flowing over the side...even if it is fixed there.

the Prado, where I came to understand what I had been missing.

A week of increased dietary fiber, curry acclimation, and Hatha Yoga has hopefully
prepared us for the National Lentil Festival in Pullman, Washington, where we'll be
broadcasting live this week from the Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum at
Washington State University. The surrounding area, known as the Palouse,
is remarkable for its fertile rolling hills where winter and spring wheat, barley, peas,
and of course lentils, are cultivated to perfection. We'll have the singing cowgirl
Stephanie Davis, country western singer Wylie Gustafson, songwriter Charlie Sutton,
mandolinist Richard Kriehn, The Guy's All-Star Shoe Band with Andy Stein, and
the Royal Academy of Radio Acting: Tim Russell, Sue Scott, and Fred Newman.

and your way of possitioning and capturing things is very good at grabbing the attention.

I'm jumping to conclusions about your style from few things I've seen, of course. But you definitely have an eye and hand for detail, a sense of perspective and location that takes realism and gives it a subtle twist, and a good use of color. I like.
