Last night's Saturday Night Live was incredibly horrible! |
|
Did anyone witness that train wreck? Have they all been that bad this season? I couldn't believe how completely horrible the skits were. And I know most folks will say the show lost it's way a long time ago but I thought that they still had a small spark going. But my God! That was wrecthed! Maybe Tina Fey wrote the entire show or something...
Anyways, this looks like the end of SNL (at least for me, anyways...)

4. I've seen high-school talent shows with funnier skits than SNL |
|
It's been awful for a while now. In the mid-70s, EVERY skit was funny and the music was great. Now they have shitty bands and even shittier attempts at "comedy" from time the program starts.

5. I had to flat out give it up about two years ago.... |
|
and that was a long time coming. I was so sick of watching Jimmy Fallon and Horatio Sanz crack up in mid-skit over something that was not even funny. I mean it is funny when a real pro cracks up, like I remember sometimes Chris Farley would do something so outrageously funny that he would crack up David Spade and Adam Sandler, but that was rare stuff. Fallon and Sanz would be in the middle of something not even remotely funny and break character, it was awful.
There are some people who do some great stuff though. Like Darrell Hammond was fantastic at all kinds of impressions. Chris Parnell and Will Forte were solid. Amy Poehler is good. Here and there you would have some good skits, but the writing went seriously downhill over the course of the last 8 years or so. Tina Fey was a big step down from people like Adam McKay, but now even she is gone, so right now you have a watered down talent pool for both performers and writers. SNL is one of those shows that could get back on the right track, but you are right it is a train wreck, and it's going to take some special people to come in and get it going again.

6. All I saw was the opening skit.... |
|
..it was supposed to be Hastert. Looked nothing like Hastert. Sounded nothing like Hastert. It was like they didn't even try. Whoever it was I think was the same guy who does Cheney and it was almost like they said "Hmmm....portly old white guy. Nobody will know or care" and just had the guy read the script doing his Cheney impression. Which might have been fine if it were funny. But it wasn't.

I haven't watched an entire show for over fifteen years or more, that one was no exception either. Shut off right after "Weekend Update".

10. People have been saying since the 70's that it's gone downhill |
|
But this week's was the worst ever. I actually like the folks they brought in last year - Kristin Wiig and Bill Hader and Andy Samberg, but the writing this week was appalling.
How do you make the whole Mark Foley thing un-funny?

13. It's been the "end of SNL" for years |
|
They have good days and bad days in my opinion. The problem is, is that they can't push the envelope anymore because they will take too much shit from the PC crowd. They can't get away with bees "buzzing off", "Look for the union label" pot songs, Mr. Robinson's neighborhood, bass-a-matics, Carter talking down someone on acid and so on.
I blame the PC crowd more than the writers.

It seemed like when she was writing the show, at least a few of the skits were passable (Especially the news). Not a single skit on Sat. show was funny which has me guessing that she pretty much wrote everything.

16. The irony is that New York City is crammed with writers, yet with all that |
|
potential writing talent concentrated in one city, they can't even put out a show once a week with good comedy/satire writing. Something is seriously wrong with the system they use for writing the show.

|
Show's sucked since 1997. Nothing but lame writing, comedians who can't stay in the zone and laugh at their own shit and nothing but safe, non-ground-breaking ClearChannel-friendly musical acts.
