Well, "You Tube" will quickly turn to shit
Google snaps up YouTube for $1.65B

"SAN FRANCISCO - Google Inc. snapped up YouTube Inc. for $1.65 billion Monday in deal that catapults the Internet search leader to a leading role in the online video revolution.

The all-stock acquisition unites one of the Internet's marquee companies with one of its rapidly rising stars. The price makes YouTube, a still-unprofitable startup, by far the most expensive purchase made by Google during its eight-year history.

Although some cynics have questioned YouTube's staying power, Google is betting that the popular Web site will provide it an increasingly lucrative marketing hub as more viewers and advertisers migrate from television to the Internet. "We are natural partners to offer a compelling media entertainment service to users, content owners and advertisers," said Eric Schmidt, Google's chief executive officer.

YouTube will continue to retain its brand, as well as all 67 employees, including co-founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen."

1.6 billion fucking dollars. I need to start thinking of something to catch on. Maybe a pet rock that doubles as a paper clip and mp3 player.

And then they will make sure we can't see anything unless we sign up and pay a fee.

4. That isn't the google way
They don't make us pay cash up front - they record our information: what we search the web for, what we email about, and sell the information to advertisers. Kinda like spyware, in a way.

5. so does that now mean I'm gonna have to start paying for pointless videos?
I love crappy homemade videos that I can watch for free but if they start charging for their services, I'm out of there! For 1.6 billion, they are gonna have to make some money somehow

12. I was wondering about that
They have a lot of copyrighted stuff uploaded there, old MTV videos for example. I wouldn't be surprised if the RIAA turns YouTube into the next Napster.

Are they not the ones who refused to give the government our private information (aka what we are searching for) .. quite the opposite of other search engines
Google video works fine..
Google itself works fine..

20. it won't
google offers some very unique, advertising-reduced (insofar as they have text ads and no garish picture ads/javascripts/flash/animations/movies that automatically spawn type ads) products.

Gmail is fucking awesome, so is google video.

their interface is one of the cleanest out there. i hope google NEVER changes THAT.
