Is it legal to sell used software?

I notice on ebay that people auction off software -- WindowsXP, Adobe Photoshop, etc. Is this legal? I have a Microsoft Visual Basic package that I used for school a while ago, but which is useless for me now, and I would like to auction it off. How would go one go about transferring software to another user, if it is legal?

1. If they require pproduct activation, it may not be.

Without a transfer of license scenario.

Dunno about microsoft, but Apple is stringent on that sort of thing... :(

I can install OS X without entering a serial number. Final Cut Pro, they want a number. But they don't phone home.

But they spend millions fighting pirates. The end result. Legit customers are inconvenienced. And the pirates use the key gen that comes with the installer.

Thanks for the tips, but I already knew about those. Not to seem ungrateful. I'm a hard core Apple guy. 1984....

My mom bought me the original Macintosh when I was seven.. My psychiatrist thinks that is the only reason I can tell her "I love you" with a straight face.

But the EULA usually calls for you to un-install it from your computer before transferring the license for it's use to someone else.

11. I'd remove it from my own computer and give it to a student who needs it.

Help a poor student out by removing it from your own machine and passing it on to the school you came from.

Personally I think they should use 100% free Open Source software in schools.

The machine I'm writing this on runs ubuntu.

It works with my cameras, my scanners, my music collection, my external drives, etc., and it's free of licensing worries.

It does not work with Miscrosoft Visual Basic, but I see that as a good thing.
