Who knows Tequila? Need advice.
Need to buy a birthday gift for a friend who loves tequila. She loves Patron and I am thinking of just buying her a bottle of Patron Anejo and be done with it, but I kind of want to get her something special that she may not have had before. She's turning 40 after all and she should get something special, dontcha think?

So, anyone know of a special, great smooth, sipping tequila, not silver, that I should look into?

Thanks in advance.

7. Patron is damn good tequila.
but I've heard from afficionados that there are better. I wouldn't know, Patron is more than satisfactory for me. What I would do is go to a Mexican restaurant with a liquor bar and ask the bar-tender. I've done this before but I can't remember the name of the suggestion - but he empathically told me about how Patron was low quality comparatively.

6. Hard to beat Patron. Some people like Don Julio, though. But please, don't
insult her with anything that has a silly name, such as Cabo Wabo.

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't buy that stuff, no matter how good it may be reputed to be, just because of the name. Furthermore, I'm going to pay big bucks for a Tequila because Sammy Hagar owns the company? Say what?

19. I'm a Don Julio fan
I actually prefer it to Patron. El Tesoro is also good, but Don Julio is my favorite.

Try the Cabo Wabo sometime. Sammy is very passionate about his tequilla and must have bought a great distillary or something because it's pretty damned good IMO.

I'm not a big fan of the Anejos, the overly aged tequilas. I prefer it to still taste somewhat like tequila instead of aged whiskey. So Silver (non aged) or Reposado (rested one year) for me.

12. here's what Jeff's Tequila World says
"Herradura Seleccion Suprema- It truly is SUPREME! I never thought I would taste a tequila smoother than Reserva de la Familia but Suprema is absolutely incredible! Unrivaled in smoothness and delicacy yet full bodied in flavor. For more info check TEQUILA UPDATES below.

Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia- An awesome tequila. Rich, full bodied and yet incredibly smooth with a great bouquet.

Patron anejo- For the price it's my favorite tequila. Smooth and light on the palate.

Chinaco anejo- A little pricier than Patron and fuller in flavor but also very smooth.

Porfidio anejo- Another very smooth tequila and for the price I prefer it over Porfidio's single barrel anejo although head to head, with price as no option, the single barrel anejo is better."

Come to think of it, he just said Cuervo. Maybe we shouldn't listen to Jeff.

13. My personal favorite, which I think is superior
Corazon's anejo. I did a fair amount of sipping in the past few years, and I thought Chinaco was tops. But Corazon is just a wee bit better.

Great sippin', and a cool enough bottle for a gift.

16. Patron is overrated , in my opinion
Herradura is an excellent reasonably priced tequila, even the premuim Cuervos are OK.

18. Chinaco is muy bueno!
i also like the corazon. Tres genaciones is really smooth and cheaper than patron. Make her a batch of sangrita. Mix tomato juice, lemon juice, lime juice, orange juice, with a splash of grenadine. Sip it along with the tequila. Makes a great breakfast.
