Rescued PITBULL annihilates rescuers

It's about a year ago, girl. Executed for my mistake. I saved you, then adopted you out to a shitbag group of irresponsible humans. An ironclad contract, yet still, you paid for my error with your life. And no, the Director of Animal Services knocking on my door, delivering a personal apology fixes shit. They lied to us, and you paid for it, after all you'd been through.

My heart is heavy this evening. My disappointment in people is only more energized.

I'm sorry, baby girl. You vicious, evil, diabolical breed filled with hatred and destruction...

13. She did. She had been hit by a car and left under a house for days
because the folks didn't want to deal with vet bills for her. Degloved (don't Google that if you have a sensitive stomach) and broken, we took her in, nursing her back to health.

Even after all that, the mistreatment, the abuse, the noncaring, she was a fabulous dog, regardless of her breed.

Thank you for your thoughts.

19. You misread the post.
The dog is dead, aside from the subject line I took as sarcasm, I see nothing about people being harmed.

I'm pretty sure flvegan used that just because people on DU love to paint all pit bulls as killers.

22. Sorry to hear about your loss. But I don't see how you did anything wrong.
The people who adopted the dog lied to you, so it's not your fault, it's theirs. You did the best you could do with the information presented to you. I hope that makes you feel better. I don't see it as your fault. That's one of the best-looking pit bulls I've seen. Most are pretty ugly.

25. What I did wrong...
1. I let people dictate her fate.

2. I didn't ensure that our animal wouldn't be put to death based upon a lie..

Best I could? She's stil dead. Best I could doesn't matter it seems.

However...you wait...you wait and see what happens.

As I've said, this isn't payback, no, it's not a correction...NO

It's PUNISHMENT...

33. It's very painful for you now. I know this pain, I've been devastated when
each of my cats died. For me the pain went away fairly soon, within a few days, and I was left with the memories of the time I spent with the cat, which were pleasant memories. Hopefully you will be able to think of it in a positive way, and remember that you did help this dog - she was rescued from a worse situation - and that you did touch her life and she touched yours.

36. Very true, friend, and thank you.
However, I can't think of this in a positive way. Though we did help her, and we did rescue her form a worse situation, her suffering and subsequent death at the hands of people I know and used to (USED TO) trust are at issue here.

No...it's not so simple (and I know you aren't saying that) as the simple euthanization of just another dog.

This could be any dog, a rescue...belonging to a person...doesn't matter...

Never going to happen again. Thank you, though, again. I appreciate your positive words...

It's not so simple, not so passe...it's murder to me.

35. Oh man, my heart goes out to you.
She is such a beautiful dog...

My Nikita was part Pit, and was the kindest, gentlest, most loving creature I've ever known. She loved and protected my kids, and they loved her back. When I turned my life around after a decade of alcohol, drug abuse and a suicide attempt, Nikita was my gift to myself. I "rescued" her from an inner city puppy mill in a crack house when she was 6 weeks old. She slept with her head on my pillow almost everynight for 13 years. When I got married, she became MrsRetro's best friend too. And when Nikita got too sick to eat or walk, saying goodbye was the hardest thing I've ever done. After 13 years of love, I held her in my arms as she breathed her last, and I cried like a baby and hurt for a long time. I still miss her.

You are a good man my friend, and all I can do is send you a hug.

39. Thank you, everyone.
As I've come to expect from DU, especially the Lounge, I thank you for your positive posts.

I can only ask you for a couple things...

For one, please, don't judge a dog by his or her breed.

For two, respect animals on a grander scale.

Please.

51. Amen to that....
I wish more people would heed that advice rather than spout hysterical rhetoric. The existence of breed prejudice doesn't make a rescuer's job any easier. We've had to deny would-be adopters and have had dogs surrendered to us because of the stupidity of which homo sapiens is regrettably capable.

Thanks for your efforts in rescue...the breed needs all the help it can get.

to those that find fault, hatred for the "pitbull" breeds...

I'm going to be here for them, I'm going to support them. I suggest you have your very, very best ready for it...ready to throw down and defend what's been stated.

Otherwise, I sincerely hope that folks are ready to back their shit up...otherwise...my best to you. Mark.

41. for your baby...
ONE MAN'S SPECIAL TRIBUTE TO A DOG

The one absolutely unselfish friend that
a man can have in this selfish world,
the one that never deserts him,
the one that never proves ungrateful
or treacherous, is his dog.

A man's dog stands by him in prosperity
and in poverty,
in health and in sickness.
He will sleep on the cold ground where
the wintery winds blow,
and the snow drives fiercely,
if only he may be near his master's
side. He will kiss the hand that has no
food to offer, he will lick the sores
and wounds that come in encounter with
the roughness of the world. He guards
the sleep of his Pauper master as if he
were a prince.

When all other friends desert,
he remains.
When riches take wings and reputation
falls to pieces, he is as constant in
his love as the sun in it's journey
through the heavens.
If misfortune drives the master forth
an outcast in the world, friendless
and homeless, the faithful dog asks
no higher privilege than that of
accompanying him to guard against
danger, to fight against his enemies.

And when the last scene of all comes,
and death takes the master in it's
embrace, and his body is laid away in
the cold ground, no matter if all other
friends pursue their way, there by the
graveside will the noble dog be found,
his head between his paws, his eyes sad,
but open in alert watchfulness,
faithful and true, even in death.

-From a speech given by
Former Senator George Graham Vest
of Missouri. Delivered in 1870 when he
was acting as a lawyer in a suit against
a man who had killed the dog of his
client. -- He won the case.

nothing hurts me more than to see a dog harmed and abused.

you are in my thoughts.
