Alright, is this nuts?

I use the Clinique 3 step skin care system, and I never really think about the cost, because I run out of the things individually.

I'm talking to my friend and it hits me.
I spend $20.00 on soap
$24 on toner
and $31 on moisturizer

Is this insane? I already know it's trivial but so am I.

Like I said, I run out of stuff at different times, some last me longer than others. Probably soap lasts a month, toner up to two, mosturizer... really depends.

If those items are lasting for weeks at a time then it really doesn't sound like too expensive of an indulgence, especially as there are tangible long term benefits. I've probably spent that much in bars on a monthly basis, and the only thing I got out of it was a hangover (or ten)...

I had a roommate, in Southern California, who swore by it.

I mix and match. For instance, I'll buy Sea Breeze for an astringent (it's all the same stuff), but Lancome moisturizer (which is very expensive...so I try to buy it duty free when I travel).

Good luck. Keeping skin good looking is a lot of work! Oh, and as my German friend always reminds me: it's also what you put *in*to your body....she swears by lots of water and yogurt. It also helps that she didn't get too much sun growing up. ;-)

You'll see how correct you are.

Bar soaps or bar cleansers of any kind, regardless of claims of gentleness or no residue should be avoided. The ingredients that keep a bar cleanser or soap in its bar form can clog pores, and the cleansing ingredients are always far more drying than a gentle cleanser contains.

I'm not saying that Noxcema is the way to go,
but you're on the right track with the drugstore brands.

Taking care of ourselves is a positive...a step for survival and away from decay, and that's more than just physical. Some elements cost money, while others are free (ie sleep, water, laughter.) Your costs sound modest compared to many folks', and if the result is healthy and pleasing skin, you're winning.

If you shop when they have the giveaways going on. I swear I think I only bought 2 or 3 lipsticks in my whole life. The sad thing is that you have to spend $20 to get the giveaway now. When I first started using Clinique, I think you had to spend $10. :cry: Am I getting that old?

I use Peter Thomas Roth, my $30 cleanser and my $45 acne treatment both last me 3 months and are the only products that have been effective for me, no matter what any "studies" show. My dermotologist was the one that recommended it to me, so there must be some differences between products.

Use whatever works for you and makes you feel good.

highly regarded dermatologist, and while he didn't recommend it, when I told him what I used he then didn't recommend anything else and told me to stick with my routine. :)
