Young men going after older women
Edited on Tue Oct-10-06 03:41 PM by NewWaveChick1981
I know we had this discussion before, but it really does seem like younger guys are really going for older women these days. I've seen it in action in a lot of places (and I'm not just talking about myself), and it's becoming more apparent that younger guys are either bored or uncomfortable with women in their own age group.

Don't get me wrong. I find it incredibly flattering when it happens to me. :D It's just an observation.

Oh, and I've had sixteen guys between the ages of 18 and 29 proposition me on myspace since I joined a week or so ago.  They know how old I am because it's in my profile. I'm not saying this to brag, because about half of them have been Repukes, and even the thought of doing ANYTHING with a Repuke is icky and disgusting. But that seems to be the majority of who's viewing my profile. If that isn't a trend, I don't know what is. :P

1. Well, judging by my own experiences,
The vast majority of ladies don't want me either. (so no doubt 18-29s want older... :D )

Let's just say those who are interested are wonderful and worthy...

Mind you, myspace tells me I've got 3 messages. But going into my inbox, they don't show despite being claimed they exist...

22. Well...
physically, I'm often attracted to women my age to 20-25 years older. The one difference being usually with people closer to my age, I'm usually more attracted to adrogynous-types and with older women, I'm more attracted to feminine women.

A lot of my real-life friends are in their 30/40s, so it sort of just carries over into my relationships. Even when I was in HS, a lot of my friends were in their 20s. I've just always connected to people older than me, probably because I had to deal with a lot of things growing up that other kids never did.

11. wow.
Cool. I'm starting to think I might end up like Cher, lol. This is probably going to sound a little mean, but I'm finding that younger men seem to be more comfortable with a direct person (such as myself)...I don't know it just seems a better fit. Sometimes I think that men my age or older don't really know what to make of me...like I possibly scare them. Maybe even offend them?? It's very strange. I think this generation that grew up with rap has a little bit more open view of sexuality and don't expect women to be so damn coy and game-playing when it comes to that kind of thing, behaviors I a)suck at and b)find incredibly boring. I'm kind of tired of getting my feelings hurt by prudish men.

Shouldn't have said any of that. Oh well, f*ck it, it's been on my mind.

I don't find any of this problem with women. Not only that, but I think heterosexuality is brutal on 'older' women, something that I don't even think really exists in the lesbian world in a big way except maybe in places like New York and LA. I kind of shapeshift in and out of these paradigms and I think it's just sad the way that older women are sometimes viewed in the hyper-visual straight world. It's like a whole other dimension around women; so it's also good to know that some younger men prefer older women.

13. Excellent observations, idg!
I find that most older women I know (my friends, me, and others) don't enjoy playing silly torturous games. I definitely don't. I've noticed a lot of guys in the 40-and-up age group that are repressed Repukes (that has a nice ring to it!) who have much different expectations than younger guys.

155. I can totally relate to this!

I had weird socialization in that I was abused so badly by female "friends" as a child that when I was a teen, all the people I was friends with and trusted were male and older (I'm female) so I picked up a certain...style...of dealing with sex and relationships, just from conversations.

I'm direct. I have a lot of diverse sexual experience and I don't hide it; in fact I consider it a great asset. (Why is that the only realm where experience and practice is considered to detract from one's, er, "employment value"...well, only if you're female). I don't do that "The Rules" shit. I don't pretend to be dumber or less ambitious than I am, and I'm not willing to spend more money on my looks than on music and books and travel for ANYBODY....and for most of my life I was mostly into older men, but then I hit 30 and it turns out the next great love of my life would turn out to be younger, and enamored of all the qualities in me that were starting to scare older guys off. Go figure.

41. I don't think it's any different than it's ever been except 1)
there are more of us who are clearly available and 2)we've only recently arrived at the age where we qualify as the "older woman" so naturally we are suddenly experiencing the phenomenon. I thought it was surprising the first few times. Now it's just crazy/weird and not particularly desirable. The youngest who tried was eighteen, and he actually tried to get my number from the hostess of the party we both attended ?????? I was forty-two at the time. Forty fucking two, quite literally old enough to be his mama. Usually though it's men in their twenties and thirties. They look old enough, but they're not! :P

46. LOL!
 I'll tell ya---attitudes about being 40 have changed too. Ever hear the phrase, "40 is the new 30"? We've talked about it here in the Lounge, but women over 40 are dressing the way they want to, doing what they want to, and enjoying life. I remember in the early 70s, my mother had a friend who just turned 40, and she threw away all her "young" clothes and bought a bunch of matronly crap because she was 40. :yoiks: No thanks....

52. My mother did just the opposite.
I remember when I was about sixteen, which would have made her 39, I came home from school to find her hauling everything out of her closet. Racks of pants, shirts, dresses, a bunch of shoes. I asked what she was doing. "Getting rid of it. I'm too young to look this old. And... I will NEVER wear polyester again!" A day of celebration indeed. And she never went back. She still wears her own bold style and if she weren't 5'2" I'd break into her closet and make off with everything in it.

But you're right, we are in better shape and more confident than the forty-somethings of the past. And I feel badly that many women don't believe it.

42. My wife is two years older than me, does that count? Partial credit?
When asked about this, she says, "Conventional wisdom used to be 'Marry an older man - they're more mature.' Current thinking, however, states that 'Since men don't really ever mature, marry a young one!'" So, she did (16 years ago this Friday).

51. my cynical point of view is it might have something to do with
what is being marketed to young women today as the image to cultivate. I might get flamed for saying it but maybe some young men are sick of the Stupid Girls thing.

54. I've been with three women that were significantly older than me
And I almost married one of them. The maturity aspect is very sexy. Older women know what they want more, and that is quite a welcome relief from younger women who, dare I say it, often like to play silly games and get upset over stupid stuff. Older women also seem to be more appreciative of their partners, more affectionate. When I say appreciative I don't mean that they have to kiss our butt all the time or anything, but some of the women my own age that I've been with seem to take a lot of stuff for granted. Almost like they have this air to them that I am expandable because they have a million other guys lined up or something and I better keep that in mind. I'm not saying that's true of all younger women, just that it tends to be true a lot more with them.

Also, physically, I think a little age on a woman's face and body is very sexy. Why? Because it's real. A woman's true beauty can shine through a few lines and wrinkles and then the makeup and other superficial things become less important. Younger women that are so done up may provide a little eye candy and maybe some activity in the groin region if you know what I mean. But it really doesn't extend very far beyond that, unless you're one of those guys who needs a barbie doll on his arm to show off, which I'm not.

But a beautiful older woman? There's something deep and rich and incredibly alluring to her, even if she has signs of age on her. Something less superficial and more penetrating. Yes, older women are hot. I've always been attracted to them and always will. And since I just turned 30, I still have a little time to go while I can still call them older.

55. Speaking as a younger male (I’m 26)
Edited on Tue Oct-10-06 05:03 PM by socialdemocrat1981
I’ve always been significantly attracted to females significantly older than myself –believe it or not this has been my tendency since I was a young child. I think because I have a disability and because I’ve also been more intellectually stimulated since I was a young child, I’ve always found I’ve had much more in common with women significantly older than myself than women of my age group.

On perhaps a somewhat shallow level, I find myself physically attracted to women ranging from 10-30 years older than me and someone in that age bracket is much more likely to capture my attention than someone from my age group or younger when I’m in a public place. I find many of them incredibly, incredibly sexy beyond what words can adequately convey

But it is much, much deeper than that. I’ve always found that I could relate to older women intellectually and on a personal level much better than I can with women my own age or younger. I love learning about their lifestyles, their backgrounds, their intellectual interests, their hobbies and their personality and I quite often find them to be intriguing and wonderful people. I also like it that most of them have a mature and experienced perspective on viewing the world and on issues such as love, relationships and the like. As a general rule I find them to be established and grounded in life and comfortable with their place in the world –I value that quality in a person. I also find women of that age bracket to be much more tolerant of who I am, of my disability and my life situation

Of course this is working on the presumption that an older woman would want to be in a relationship with me. Or any woman for that matter. Judging by my past history, I shouldn't get my hopes up

You present yourself (through words and actions) as someone who is much older and wiser. Wow. What a future you have. And many older women will be grateful. ;)

I cannot thank you enough LizzieGrace. You are truly a wonderful person and an asset to this forum. :yourock: :yourock: My life is better for knowing you

I do hope one day to be in a relationship –it’s just hard to be optimistic with my current life situation. I think in all likelihood it will probably be with an older woman if a relationship does occur. But one has to keep an open mind

But I used to do all that stuff for my older girlfriend as well as pick her kids up from school everyday and buy her groceries. It isn't always because we want a mommy replacement that fucks, although I will admit it does happen. But deep relationships filled with love and respect can happen as well.

66. A crass reason is that breeding is out of the equation
Of course it depends on the ages involved but some younger women evaluate partners based on whether or not they'd want to raise children with them. Therefore men with poor parenting skills strike out with them. (I hope)

Older women have already had their children and/or decided they don't want more. This is quite appealing to those of us guys who don't want to be fathers.

70. To Quote Benjamin Franklin
But if you will not take this Counsel, and persist in thinking a Commerce with the Sex inevitable, then I repeat my former Advice, that in all your Amours you should prefer old Women to young ones. You call this a Paradox, and demand my Reasons. They are these:

1. Because as they have more Knowledge of the World and their Minds are better stor'd with Observations, their Conversation is more improving and more lastingly agreable.

2. Because when Women cease to be handsome, the study to be good. To maintain their Influence over Men, they supply the Dimunition of Beauty by the Augmentation of Utility. They learn to do 1000 Services small and great, and are the most tender and useful of all Friends when you are sick. Thus they continue amiable. And hence there is hardly such thing to be found as an old Woman who is not a good Woman.

3. Because there is no hazard of Children, which irregularly produc'd may be attended with much Inconvenience.

4. Because thro' more Experience, they are more prudent and discreet in conducting and Intrigue to prevent Suspicion. The Commerce with them is therefore safer with regard to your Reputation. And with regard to theirs, if the Affair should happen to be known, considerate People might be rather inclin'd to excuse an old Woman who would kindly take care of a young Man, form his Manners by her good Counsels, and prevent his ruining his Health and Fortune among mercenary Prostitutes.

5. Because in every animal that walks upright, the Deficiency of the Fluids that fill the Muscles appears first in the highest Part: the Face first grows lank and wrinkled; then the Neck; then the Breast and Arms; the lower Parts continuing to the last as plump as ever: So that covering all above with a Basket, and regarding only what is below the Girdle, it is impossible of two Women to know an old from a young one. And as in the dark all Cats are grey, the Pleasure of corporal Enjoyment with an Old Woman is at least equal, and frequently superior, every Knack being by Practice capable of Improvement.

6. Because the Sin is less. The debauching of a Virgin may be her Ruin, and make her for Life unhappy.

7. Because the Compunction is less. The having made a young Girl miserable may give you frequent bitter Reflections; none of which can attend the making an old Woman happy.

8. They are so grateful!!

75. I have YET to date a younger man (or woman for that matter).
However, the MILF craze post-"American Pie" makes things weird. As a single mother, I am not looking for a man to parent my child...I just want one with which to mambo with horizontally and engage in intellectual discourse and be unrepentently silly. MILF's, whilst we are hot and striving for excellence, seem to be great commerce for the Peter Pan.

I think that an older woman's options are expanding...I just hope it isn't a fetish of the times.

I've also been attracted to the 30-45 age group ever since I was in my very early 20's and my relationships reflected it. Now at 42, that age group of attraction hasn't changed. I just grew into it!

82. It's just more accepted now.
I remember when my grandmother remarried after my grandfather died. She was 61 and the step-grandfather was 40. This was in 1960 and was quite the scandal back then. She always said she didn't want to marry an old man, they are too much work.

They stayed married until she died at the age of 97.

You are, after all, sizzling hot! (I'm sorry some of them are repukes, though).

I've always been attracted to older women. My wife is eight years older than me, although to be fair, I didn't chase after her; she chased after me. I was too timid to chase such a gorgeous lady. Lucky for me she was a bold brazen woman! B-)

When I first saw the woman who is now my wife, I thought the little crinkles at the corners of her eyes were unspeakably sexy. She's smart, tough, confident and experienced (in MANY ways ;-) ) I could never go for a girl who vocabulary is dominated by "Um, like, you know?"

Older women RULE! :loveya:

103. I am a youngish 46...
and recently I buzzed my hair r-e-a-l-l-y close because I have severe alopecia and the hair loss was getting to extreme to hide anymore. So now my sparse hair is less than 1/2 an inch long and looks like a dalmation pattern of white and a touch of black (strangely, the white hair doesn't fall out, only the black). So, here I am feeling like a mutant freak out in public.

Here's the weird thing: I have had 20-something guys flirting with my like CRAZY!! I mean full-on, flirty talk, smiling, twinkling eyes stuff! At first I really didn't know what was going on, but it's been over three months and it has not stopped.

Also weird, the guys my own age seem to look at me with a touch of horror in their eyes when they see me -- I can see them staring at my (lack of) hair and their eyes get wide.

I think the old guys see "cancer woman" and the young guys are seeing (for some reason) "hootchie mama".

Not that i'm complaining, mind you.

Edited on Tue Oct-10-06 07:36 PM by Evoman
And she was two years older than me (23 and 25). I really haven't seen it any more than usuual (younger men, older women)...but maybe its because a lot of the younger women prefer older guys and don't go out with guys their own age?

I don't think I have ever really been attracted to women more than 10 or 15 years older than me (I'm 27, and most of the women I find attractive tend to be less than 40). There are some exceptions (and it so happens you may be one of them ;)) but in general, I'm way too superficial. I prefer beauty to wisdom lol...hey, at least I'm honest. That being said, my girlfriend is extremely intelligent (scientist) and liberal....its doesn't hurt that she's hot as hell though.

123. Well when I was 18-29
It really didn't matter much about age to me, except that had to be at least my age. Even in my early 20's I found I usually just couldn't hold interest beyond a appreciative glance in 18-19-20 year old women. And in fact in my mid to late 20's I found (though no really specific decision just by chance) I was ending up with women 5 to 10 years older than me.

I ended up marring someone just 3 weeks younger.

142. Is It Because We Don't Wear Undergarments As Outer Wear?
One of _the_ most unattractive fashion trends, IMO, is the chemise worn as a blouse/shirt.

Why wear such a pretty thing in a way that a) it gets all dirty and worn out so fast b) leaves no pretty surprise for when your real blouse comes off?

146. Two of my best relationships ever were with
men who were 1) 6 years younger and 2) 10 years younger.

However, both of them were very mature for their age and looked older than they were.

I haven't had any relationships recently, but in the past couple of years, I've had ongoing flirtations with several young sales clerks, waiters, and counter attendants.

However, I am NOT interested in men who are more than maybe five years older than me. At my age, I'm too conscious of the old guys who are looking for a nursemaid and/or housekeeper with benefits, and I don't want someone who is likely to up and die after a short time.

165. Good point...
:) There are pitfalls sometimes in both groups. My mother is a good example of a large age difference that worked very well---although her husband (my stepfather) was 20 years older than she was. They were both just looking for companionship, and he made her very happy. He did not have any expectation of the "housekeeper/nursemaid" scenario, and they just loved each other. They met when Mom was in her mid-40s and were together for 18 years, including 15 years of marriage. He died in 1999 at the age of 84.

It can work in both the younger man and the older man scenarios. :)

Like you, I used to be shy, so I didn't always have the opportunities when I was young. Then as I approached (and passed) 50, I found myself having more and better sex than ever! I had a "friend with benefits" 15 years younger than me for close to three years, off and on (mostly on). (Surprisingly, I was the one who ended up ending that relationship, because I met someone who I'm now involved with.) :hi:

152. I'm noticing that, too
When I was in my 20's and 30's, I was usually hit on by guys in their 50's; now it tends to be late 20's-mid 30's (I'm 40).

Most don't realize my age, and only one ever expressed a :yoiks: when he found out.

The last chap I dated was 12 years younger than me, but to be honest, it was boring. I'm not going to categorize all like that, most certainly. He was concentrating on his career and had very few outside interests...I don't know if he could have even named the Prime Minister (he did at least know who the provincial Premier was...) :silly:

I can say that I do prefer older women!

I've never gotten along with people in my own age group, even as friends. I'm very mellow and mature in attitude, and the wild behavior that's otherwise common to people my age makes me uneasy.

Older women tend to have calmed down a bit, which makes me more comfortable with being around them. I've also found that women my own age just find me to be too calm/tame for their tastes!

In the end, though, what attracts me to a woman is shared interests. A would like a woman who shares my interest in computers, politics, reading, movies, having fun.

173. Older women tend to avoid the dramatic bullshit
that you see in women in their 20's, many of whom seem to be laboring under the fantasy that relationships are supposed to be how they are in romantic comedies. Older women know better and are much more relaxed and mature about the whole thing.

If I were just looking for sex, the idea of a younger man finding me attractive would have some appeal.

But when you're looking for a long-term thing, and even men your own age can't be trusted to act their age, the propsect of a younger man is not at all appealing.

(and by "old" I mean, of course, "young")....so you'll be free of me next year, baby.

:P

And, yes, 'older' women seem to have become more widely desired -- as far as I can tell -- in the past 20 years. I think it's a nice counterpoint to the ageism still so widely apparent in various societies. Maybe the whole Dynasty thing and the aging of eternal movie and music beauties like Sofia Loren, Ann Margret, and Tina Turner (among many others) has something to do with it. Though there was always, of course, the Mrs Robinson Effect.
