Has anyone seen the movie "The Devil's Arithmetic"? |
|
It's about the Holocaust.
How graphic is it?
Is it appropriate for seventh graders?
Opinions, please.

1. I saw it a few years ago. I think it's okay for seventh graders. |

It's not graphic as I recall, but rather upsetting as any Holocaust story would be. To the best of my recollection, it was told in a way that was geared towards adolescents as well as adults. But, honestly, it was a while ago, so I can't remember if there are segments that may be too graphic for 7th graders.
At that age, I was reading book and hearing lots of stories about the Holocaust. I was born in 1951, just six years after the end of WWII. Obviously, the wound was still very fresh. As a child in Hebrew School, we were told repeatedly about the Holocaust, in an age appropriate manner.

I read the book in fourth grade, and it wasn't too graphic for me.
I cant speak for the movie, though.

3. It's a movie based on the book |
|
According to the reviews on Amazon.com, the movie doesn't completely follow the book, though.
