I'm starting ont the winter in Fort Lauderdale but I'll be looking for a place west of there. We'll only be a short Trike ride apart.

7. Hey, Florida is great.
The panhandle anyway, fantastic beaches, a small taste of Winter but not enough to get sick of it, boating, fishing, canoing, diving...We're a bit full of republicans and christians, but they are mostly harmless.

Besides nothing gets the heart pumping as if you are running a marathon than an approaching hurricane. :)

Well back!

43. I think it's at its most appalling right after most of the yellow
snow is gone and there's just a few patches left. Only then do you appreciate just how butt ugly a New England spring can be - moldy piles of leaves left over from last year, clumps of dead weeds around the lunched out yard cars and trucks, scummy mud holes, brown lawns, brooks and lakes packed tight with dirty ice, none of the men have shaved off their winter beards yet ... there's a reason no one writes poetry about a NE spring.

It almost claimed the lives of 3 Canadians who went up a few weeks ago dressed in shorts and t-shirts, got lost, nearly froze to death and had to be rescued. People around here hear about it, nod their heads and have no pity for them.

I have a good friend who works the info desk at Pinkham Notch. We call him the Desk Nazi. He yells at people who ask about going up to the top when he notices they are wearing sneakers and shorts. Tells them it's him who has to organize the rescues and he won't do it if they go up dressed like that. Course, he still does, but they were given fair warning.

Just in case. One would think that if someone who lives and works there tells you you're heading up the local shit creek without the proper accessories, you might want to listen.

OK gray, if your old man drags you down to FL, stay away from Tampa; it's a hellhole and do come back next spring -- well, late spring.

I hated the heat, I especially hated the humidity, but above all I hated all the Republicans and racists (was I just redundant?).

Also, beer brewed in Florida tends to be horrible. For that reason alone, no self-respecting man would move there willingly.

Quoted from

http://www.magni-ficent.com/Forums/Topic3621-3-1.aspx

"Due to issues that have nothing to do with music and everything to do with money Supernovas managers have decided not to include the House-band in the upcoming tour - That of course means that I´m not going either. Instead - Juke Cartel - Toby´s band will be opening the show.

This is of course a huge blow for me since I was so eagerly waiting to go with my boys on tour but the plan is still to get them over here for my birthday on December first...

Love

84. "What's wrong w. florida?"
 alert

Let me count the ways .....

1. Its political system hasn't changed appreciably since the Carpetbagger Days

2. It's deep dish racist in that snotty, sneaky "Some of my best friends are ..." way. If you're interested I'll sing the saga of Tampa's MLK Jr Blvd bait and switch.

3. It's seriously overcrowded and rapidly running out of potable water and the water it still has is nasty and possible dangerous.

4. Its public health/medical system is a vicious disaster. I may be somewhat intolerant here because said system killed my brother and shorten my father's life by years.

5. With the exception of The Mouse Who Must Be Obeyed and the remnants of Key West's layed back life style, it has nothing resembling a cultural life.

6. Street crime and drug abuse are a way of life. You do not leave anything unlocked or unguarded for a nano second. It's routine for people to be mugged, beaten and robbed in board daylight.

7. Standard hiring practices: Three month "We're letting you go" temp, no bennies, near minimum wage.

8. Summers are way too hot. Everyone bitches about heating bills. Check the typical FL electric bill for a 24/7 6 month AC run. It'll make your eyes hurt.

9. The West Coast is a Katrina redux waiting to happen. Check out a road map of Pinellas Peninsula (home of St Petersburg and Clearwater). Observe that there are four ways out of that death trap - two bridges, a causeway and Rt 19 (still two lane last I heard and skirts the coast line). Imagine a Force Five Blow, the tides at exactly the wrong stage with accompanying tidal surge headed right up Tampa Bay (Tampa's primary care hospital is right on the edge of the bay as is MacDill Plane Patch). About 2 million permanent residents and God only knows how many visitors and touristas during August and September live on that peninsula.

10. If you can afford to live in a gated community, it may be pleasant. For the rest of us it's what this country may become if we don't clean up our act.

Re Mt Washington: When dealing with it, it's advisable to remember that it has never gotten any warmer at the summit than 72F and that the temp can drop to freezing in less than an hour even during summer.

85. This post just spurred a purchase of a pack of razor blades.
Can I get through this without feeling anything? Can I just be the walking dead til May or June? Or, maybe I organize and get a V thing going while I'm there. OMG, I am just on the verge of becoming a blubbering blubberer today.

86. I'm sorry. I should have had a "Don't read this, gray" alert
Just remember NH still will be here, ready to take you into its stony, soggy embrace when you return

...

It's very hard to live in a place you don't want to.

Say hello to the beach for me, OK? I'm envious...
even though I know you don't want to hear it
right now.
