Chocolate WHAT??!!??

For Dessert, How About a Beer?
Major Breweries Offer a Wider Variety of Beers, Including Miller's New Chocolate-Flavored Beer

By ERIC NOE
Oct. 13, 2006

The $9 billion beer industry is getting a facelift of sorts.

Beer mugs across the country still bubble over with healthy heads of hops, but more and more drinkers are tipping back beers for other reasons -- to get an energy boost, to improve health, and even to satiate a chocolate craving.

Edited on Fri Oct-13-06 08:34 AM by AllegroRondo
not a chocoloate flavor.
there have been some microbrews that have chocolate flavor in their stouts, but nothing mass produced (yet!)

4. Youngs uses chocolate
From their website
Young's Double Chocolate Stout has an intriguing twist. Chocolate malt and real dark chocolate are combined with Young's award winning rich, full flavoured dark beer to craft a satisfyingly indulgent, but never overly sweet experience.

Pale ale and crystal malt, chocolate malt, special blend of sugars, Fuggle and Goldings hops, real dark chocolate and chocolate essence.

I've brewed my own a few times too.

5. yummy - I've got to find some of that.
I've brewed my own quite a bit as well.

The only time I tried brewing with chocolate it turned out pretty badly. I attempted a chocolate-banana beer that came out tinged green. Tasted OK, once you got past the color.

6. Young's Double Chocolate is heavenly
Rogue also makes a good chocolate stout. They're not for everyday but damn are they delicious!

I can't help but think that the Miller version of chocolate beer is going to be something more like a gross 'malternative.'

9. A local bar here
has its own microbrewery. In the summer, they have this wonderful ale with a slight raspberry flavour. Yum!

10. Rogue brewery's had a chocolate stout for a few years now.

Ordered it once thinking it referred to the malts, not actually chocolate. It tasted really good. But not my idea of beer.
