Poll question: When someone offends you on DU with a stupid post, which is... |
|
...the best approach to take?
I won't post the subject matter here. It's about a post in LBN, and the post is not quite offensive enough to be removed by the mods (though, it is right on the line), so I'd really like some advice. I'm not starting a flame war, really, and that's why I didn't include the post this is referring to. Thank you.

I kind of figured that, after I calmed down a bit..that doing nothing is sometimes the best approach. Someone like that is just not worth my time...and, they probably want to get people riled up. Plus, it gets exhausting defending one's position all the time! :hi:

4. haven't voted yet, but I guess I would take "other", |
|
why not just say what you've said here to the offending party? Perhaps they will apologize...or if not, will at least think twice before they go that way again. Perhaps I'm being naive...

6. Well, when I've tried that in the past, it seems like it turns into... |
|
...tit for tat. And, I never seem to win! Guess I just get tired of fighting over stupid things.

I've seen a bit of that here certainly. But I don't know what thread it was and can't really advise. I guess just stay away from the jerk. I think others can tell immediately who is acting immaturely anyway.

I have to do a lot of that about a particular subject. It's just a waste of time and energy to do otherwise. Although ... sometimes, I wonder exactly WHY some of the offensive posts aren't "quite offensive enough" to be removed by the mods. And the more I see, the more I think DU is the wrong place for me.

7. Oh, I'm sorry you feel that way... |
|
...most of the time it seems like a civilized place. I was getting worried the week Steve Irwin died, though...and, I won't even get into the airplane crash jokes.

It seems less civilized lately. I agree with you about when Steve Irwin died. I've stayed away from the airplane crash jokes. But there's other stuff that makes me worried/upset/offended that seems to be happening more frequently. If I hadn't already been here for over a year, I certainly wouldn't come for a second look. As it is, I'm seriously considering taking a long break from DU.
Thanks for the  Here's one back.

10. Usually, unwarranted, personal attack posts are offensive to |
|
most everyone that reads them, not just the individual being attacked.
The person making the post often looks like either a freeper, a fool, or a sixth-grader to other DUers that read the post.
IMO, doing nothing is the wisest approach. Other folks reading the post will understand why you did not respond, and sometimes they will come to your defense.

Yours is the voice of reason.
Hey, I noticed one person voted to alert the mods...I wonder if that was a mod?

there are thousands of people on here and that means that you're not always going to agree with every little thing
it seems like a pretty simple answer

16. Normally I suck it up |

But if it's one that is hate filled or degrades a certain type of people (freepers excluded) I will alert the mods.
