Why am I listening to Steely Dan?
Am I trying to broaden my horizons or just too lazy to put something else on?

Please enlighten me

2. They've gotten some good reviews
So I picked up a copy of a box set of theirs from the library. It's loaded on my MP3 player and that just happened to be the last thing I listened to.

My Best of Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks CD is looking awfully tempting though

15. Pretty good choice, although the individual albums are better.
The liner notes are laugh-out-loud funny in many cases. Plus you get all the lyrics.

12. Maybe not better than the Beatles, but fiercely awesome nonetheless.

20. You're not helping your cause
Neglecting the Stones in your reply speaks volumes. A wise man once said: "I love the Stones. I can't believe they're still doing it after all these years. Fred. Barney."

10. This is pretty much what I was going to say. Their music
reminds me of sitting in the doctor's office when I was a kid.

Wake me up when the CD is over :-).

13. Clearly you have never heard the earlier work, especially.
There is not a thing bland about "Bodhisattva," for example.

Steely Dan - Kid Charlemagne
While the music played you worked by candlelight
Those san francisco nights
You were the best in town
Just by chance you crossed the diamond with the pearl
You turned it on the world
Thats when you turned the world around
Did you feel like jesus
Did you realize
That you were a champion in their eyes
On the hill the stuff was laced with kerosene
But yours was kitchen clean
Everyone stopped to stare at your technicolor motor home
Every a-frame had your number on the wall
You must have had it all
Youd go to l.a. on a dare
And youd go it alone
Could you live forever
Could you see the day
Could you feel your whole world fall apart and fade away

Chorus:
Get along, get along kid charlemagne
Get along kid charlemagne

Now your patrons have all left you in the red
Your low rent friends are dead
This life can be very strange
All those dayglow freaks who used to paint the face
Theyve joined the human race
Some things will never change
Son you were mistaken
You are obsolete
Look at all the white men on the street

Chorus

Clean this mess up else well all end up in jail
Those test tubes and the scale
Just get them all out of here
Is there gas in the car
Yes, theres gas in the car
I think the people down the hall
Know who you are

Careful what you carry
cause the man is wise
You are still an outlaw in their eyes

Chorus

21. White men can't play keyboards
That's what I thought while watching that video. Think I'll listen to some Jerry Lee Lewis or Ben Folds now
