I'll be watching 40 Year Old Virgin tonight for the first time...
Some days back, a friend came over and we were reminiscing about the Glory Days of High School. Topical music became part of the conversation and I realized I haven't downloaded anything by the Progressive/Pop group Asia which kinda rocked my world when they came on the scene.

I mentioned that to my friend and he said in his movie quote voice, "you know how I know you're gay? You listen to Asia". He told me it was a running gag in the film, 40 Year Old Virgin.

One of the guys at work brought it this morning and had it on my desk when I got here, so it seems tonight I'm gonna watch it and maybe understand this whole -gay-Asia connection thing.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled posts...

1. LOVED that movie.
Carell is great, and so is everyone else in it. And for all the comments about how raunchy it supposedly is, it's actually a very sweet movie.

2. my pop culture snobbishness kept me from seeing that movie for a long time
but i was flipping through the channels one day and it was on HBO...i watched a couple minutes and couldn't stop laughing.

it is now one of my favorites - completely not what i expected.

5. Funny film, although the 'extended cut' is waaaay too long
I hate this trend of sticking 15 minutes of filler into comedies solely for marketing purposes. That's what the 'deleted/extended scenes' DVD extras are for.

7. I just love that movie
everytime it's on HBO I tend to drop what I'm doing to watch it - especially the scene where he gets waxed. Probably one of the funniest scenes you'll ever see in a movie in your lifetime!

11. He is.
I've read interviews with Carell where he talks about that scene--said he wanted his reaction to be genuine. And so it was.

12. Actually - he was
They had like five cameras setup in that room so they could do the shot of him actually getting waxed. That's why the scene is so great!

Sad but true. :(

He's now compensating for it with more and more church and stuff.

Edit:

Good movie by the way. :D
