Something, odd about the "shuffle" |
|
option my mp3 player. I got a phillips mp3 player, and each disc I have, I can put about 106 songs on. When I walk, I put the player on "shuffle" but it consistantly, tries to replay the same cycle of songs, and it aggravates me to no end...
Has anyone else noticed this about the Shuffle option? On my walk today, it wanted to play Christian Woman by Type O Negative, 3 effing times! I couldn't believe it...I wasn't in the mood to listen to it, but it seemed to go right back to that song...same with a few other songs...
On a side note...I honestly, tried...for 6 years now, to get into Rage Against the Machine...and today, I officially state "They are highly overrated, and their lead singer needs a new job"....Zach Dela Rocha's voice is so annoying, its sickening...RATM has some good beats, and rhythm, but the second Zach jumps in with his Shatner/Rap style of singing...I cringe. Sorry RATM fans...just not for me...:hi:

1. I like RATM, but I agree on his voice. |
|
His lyrics are absolutely great and they do have great music, but his voice grates on your nerves after one song, sometimes before one song is through. The only song I can honestly say I love by RATM is "Wake Up." He talks about fascists, Hoover, and how our government is so right wing and totalitarian. It's got good lyrics, but I couldn't sit for hours like an old friend of mine used to and listen to them. He used to listen to them while he painted his cartoon characters. He was one of those very calm laid back kind of people, yet he listened to angry angry music. I miss him. He'd fit right in here on DU.

2. Yeah, the lyrics are good |
|
I like his lyrics for People of the Sun...but his voice...just kills me. Its like, pause/scream rap to me...sorta like how Shatner talks on star trek, he pauses a lot, in his lines...I got three RATM cds, and I have been trying, honestly to get "into" them, but failed...oh well, I was the same way with the Stones, and The Grateful Dead as well...

3. I find it odd about the shuffle on my computer |
|
supposedly in my collection I have only my own stuff that I like and yet it seems to find many things that I really do not want to hear. And late at night I have seen it many times, it is like it is programmed, some how, to pick mellow songs after 2 AM. I do not notice it really until about the 3rd song in a row, at which point it starts to grate on my nerves and I have to hit skip two or three times to get something non-mellow.
And I also notice repetition. That I have heard some songs two or three times and other songs not at all.

on my iPod, putting it on "shuffle" is like shuffling a deck of cards. it puts them in a new order, but if you go through them over and over, they will stay in the same sequence until you "shuffle" again. I'm not sure that any of these things are truly "random" but work on some program that appears random

6. Well, it isn't truly random... |
|
it's only pseudo-random. Most of the time when you write the code for that, you have to give it a "seed" to calculate the random number from. If you're lazy and never change the seed (like by using the time as the seed) then you will always get the same sequence out of your 'random' number generator.

7. The shuffle function on my Panasonic CD/MP3 player works well |
|
This one: http://www.shentech.com/slsv570.html discontinued, but you could find it on eBay. Anyway, no doubt a more current Panasonic would have at least as good a shuffle function.

The reporter had a similar experience with his iPod, not only that, he got to ask Steve Jobs about it. http://arts.guardian.co.uk/netmusic/story/0,,1889487,00.html">Oct 7th 2006 GuardianOnline:Oh no, not Steely Dan again

9. I have the same problem with Winamp on my computer |
|
After a few songs, it plays songs that were played less than half an hour ago. And this out of a total of several thousand songs. iTunes doesn't seem to have this problem.
Ah, Rage. Great band, but yeah, Zach is not that great a rapper. He trips over his tongue, his timing is off, and yet he still manages to convey that he thinks he's the shit. I give him points for passion, which he has a lot of, so he's not a total waste. How's that solo career coming, Zach? Seems like I heard he did something with DJ Shadow recently, but I could be wrong. He was a fool to leave RATM.
