Should I start smoking at 45? |
|
I need to lose weight, and I feel like pissing off a lot of people.
Well, what better way than to start smoking, right?
What do you think?

I take it because I have ADD, so it helps me focus. If you don't have ADD, it functions in it's regular speed way. It definitely kills your appetite.

18. Yeah, I mean seriously with me... |
|
my friends describe it as when I'm not on it I look way more tired, but I act way more out of line. When I take it, I look alert and awake, but I act normal.
There is a huge difference in the behavior of people who take it because they need it and those who don't need it. I used to have a roommate who'd take it to "study" and she'd just sit on her bed and talk at me for eight hours until it wore off.

28. I got officially diagnosed when I was 20. |
|
All the signs were there though when I was a kid, right down to being set off by certain foods. Girls with it usually aren't hyperactive like boys with it though, so we're often not really diagnosed until we seriously look into it.

...no pun intended...but I really noticed, even tonight, that I regularly take on and off my braclet...and, as you've probably noticed here...I make a lot of careless mistakes. Luckily, I am a good proofreader (where it counts) at work. But, still...the whole things really got me thinking. Thank you so much for mentioning this...really! :pals:

34. My hands have to constantly be moving. |
|
Folding up tiny scraps of paper repeatedly, twisting paperclips, and if nothing else is available, I have a bunch of earrings to play with.
Also, one of the symptoms is hyperfocusing. Once I get really started into a task, I'll be stuck on that task until it's perfect. The goal is to get me started on the proper task in the first place, so I don't go off on some useless tangent.

That would be a lot of fun and it would burn serious calories.
But it would probably also extend your lifespan, what with all that exercize. And it would not necessarily piss anyone off either. On the contrary...

I don't really think you want to be like that. I was very unhappy and under a lot of stress. Typical corporate bullshit. Much better to deal with issues than to just stay pissed off and let it strangle you. I found someone I could share my issues with... it helped a lot.
Maybe you want a happy medium that involves standing up to the bullshit people deal you?

39. I'm not one to give advice on health issues, but |
|
if you want to do something, you should probably do it. I would, however, try to let you know that they are putting way way way more chemicals and tar into cigarettes nowadays, so the addiction is way way way stronger and harder to kick. I wish now that I had never started smoking. It's like burning money and it runs good people off sometimes. That never dawned on me until this summer when a great DUer mentioned that smoking was a turn off to her. It made me think.
You should probably do what you feel is right in your case. This is all I can really say.

42. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having good |
|
rebellious thoughts. I have them all the time. I always say I'd get totally addicted to heroin if I could get rid of some of my physical and emotional pains, but luckily, I entertain the thought and then think of how hard it would be with a habit like that. I couldn't afford it. It's still nice to entertain ideas in your head every now and again. Life tends to stamp us all out into carbon copies of the next person and it makes some of us feel like being an individual is an uphill battle in our society. Or at least, it does that to me a lot of the time.

44. As a long time smoker who has just quit, I'll only say this |
|
Are you nuts?! For the love of God DON'T START SMOKING.
Sure, you'll lose a few pounds and suppress your appetite. You'll also significantly increase your risk for lung cancer, emphysema, heart disease, strokes and a buffet of other health problems. Obesity will be the least of your worries. Further, most likely you'll become addicted to an expensive drug. In order for smoking to have any affect on your weight, you'll have put away minimum a pack a day; that's three cartons a month - over a hundred bucks a month and tobacco products won't get any cheaper. They're a tax mule.
Second, there are the logistical problems. Where are you going to smoke? I'll assume you work, so where and when could you smoke at work? You'll be putting a big monkey on your back that will demand feeding often, minimum once an hour. If you live alone, then no problem; however, if you live with others, how do they feel about second hand smoke and the smell and the mess?
There is only one safe way to lose weight - diet and exercise.
Now, if you're just being sarcastic, nevermind.
