Any men want to have a beard-growing contest?

I have no idea how it would work, this being cyberspace and all, nor what the stakes would be, nor the criteria for winning or how to determine that. Leave it all loosey-goosey, I say, and make the prize of a beerlike nature in some undetermined future. Anyway, it's just an excuse to start growing a beard.

1. I grew my first beard because of beer

My SO asked me if I had ever considered growing a beard. I told her I just didn't think the look would be right for me. A couple months later I had a few too many beers. I was trying to ride my bike to a bar and the next thing I remember is waking up in the emergency room. I did a face plant on the side walk. Shaving wasn't possible for the next few weeks due to facial lacerations. I decided that I did like the look and haven't shaved since, I just use a trimmer to keep it neat.

5. You should go to Shamrock, TX.

I believe they have a contest annually between New Year's Day and St. Patrick's Day. Best Donegal beard wins. There was a documentary made about it.

Don't they have (purportedly) a chunk of the Blarney Stone in a public park there? Fitzgerald's casino, in Downtown Vegas, also claims to have a piece...can't be too much of that rock left in Ireland, I'm guessing.

If I recall, Shamrock got its name basically just to capitalize on the whole St Patrick's Day thing because the town pretty much failed under its original name (Nosepick, or something) as a railroad town. Sounds like a cool little place, now, though.

(Since I was in Lubbock two weeks ago and heard a great band: Cellus and the Loose Grip. Really great blues, also sort of a Hendrix/InLivingColor side too. http://www.myspace.com/cellusandtheloosegrip Their page has them gigging across TX, so I'm just taking a curious guess, but I also offer as a recommendation.)

I can get everything covered, but it's very thin.

I usually go with an extended 5:00 shadow look.
