Am I the only one who likes Marilyn Manson? |
|
Edited on Sat Oct-14-06 08:48 PM by WindRavenX
"Mechanical Animals" has one of the best break-up song ever, "The Speed of Pain".
He may be raw, but I think he's actually pretty thoughtful

Personally, I feel he's brilliant but that a lot of people just look at him and discount him as a freak. They're missing out.

12. He was the smartest guy in the movie |
|
Really made a lot of sense, and understood the generation of kids that listens to his music.
I'm in my late 30s, and I actually like Marilyn Manson. Kinda reminds me of a harder-edged Bowie. I guess because of his image his music tends to be underrated, but I do think he's good at what he does.

Jerry Falwell hates him, therefore, he must be one of the good guys in my book. I like him. He's original and he pisses Falwell off. Job well done, IMHO. :hi:

Living on the fringe...what a life. I can't remember where I saw this, perhaps VH1, but I saw a clip from an MTV show where he is was there as a participant in something or another. He was a nobody. He looked completely normal if not a little goth. It was from the late 80s or early 90s.

but i liked mechanincal animals a lot. it was an experiment for me, but i enjoy it. nicely recorded, too.
if you listen to his lyrics, he is actually quite deep. (usually, other than his "i'll f**k you till someone better comes along" stuff.)
of course he has to please his base (i think they generally panned mechanical animals because it was too commerical...)

and a great retake of the song without ruining it. It's become a staple at the club I work at. He's also redone Golden Years = David Bowie and not suprisingly, Personal Jesus by Depeche Mode.

really. I didn't spend long at the table, because he had to maintain his image and have goth-looking chicks around and I'm a blond 80's kinda girl; but he was very polite and considerate.

I don't own any of his material . . but I enjoy listening to his music . . maybe not enough to be interested in seeing him in concert. . but enough that if I hear his song on the radio or if I'm with a friend whose playing one of his albums I can go "Okay cool, I like listening to that"
Actually someone gave me a burnt copy of his last C.D (Can't find it now) but I thought it was pretty good. That and he seems to be willing to take shots at his own image at times for the fun of it. Nothing against Manson at all.
His biography is a decent read also.

Manson is definitely interesting, which is more than one can say about most of the famous-for-nothing, vapid celebrities plaguing the world right now.
Now that you got me thinking about him, I am sad that I no longer have "Portrait of an American Family" in my CD collection. I used to rock that one all the time when I was a wee punk rock lass! :D Now I might have to re-buy it...

35. Smart man, mediocre industrial. |
|
Sure he has some catchy tunes and great riffs, but I find his songs just don't stand up to those of some of his peers. I prefer NIN or Skinny Puppy for the hard stuff and :Wumpscut:, funker voght or Icon of Coil when in the mood for more dramatic stuff. And Hanzel und Gretyl for the Metal!
