What is it with women and CANDLES?
First off, I'm a woman. And I'm not excited about candles.
They're okay, but they are a fire hazard, and really are just knick knacks.

Is anyone else picking up on the notion that women are going ape-shit over candles these days?
Are women truly wild about candles, or is it just advertsers' hype?

Guys, please chime in, too.

4. I've always liked candles, but...please....
...please...I beg all candle lovers...do not mix different scents. Just pick a scent and stick with it. Please? Otherwise, as Oprah once put it, you get a toxic odor.

5. Wheeee!
Is this a douche ad or a candle ad?
http://www.glade.com/

I'm inclined to say it's marketers hype.
And yeah, maybe the shape is sometimes suggestive.........LOL!

7. Only Yankee Candles
I must admit, I am addicted to them. I only burn them on top of my wood burning stove, which I never actully use, so it's pretty safe. I can't stand the cheap candles, they can be pretty nasty.

8. I'm a man and I like scented candles.

I am going to buy one with an apple scent and one with a pumpkin scent.

I hate the flowery smelling candles, though.

10. I like candles.

But I'm not a fanatic about them. I don't have one burning all the time or anything.

I save them for special occasions, like having company over or to create a romantic mood. Candlelight just seems to bring a unique intimacy and warmth to a gathering. I also like them for meditating. Usually I meditate with my eyes closed, but if I am having difficulty getting my mind to quiet down then watching the flame flicker is very soothing and helps me to focus. I'll light candles with a good intention too, like if someone I know is having a particular difficulty then seeing the candle burning throughout the day will keep them on my mind and sending good vibes their way. Or I'll treat myself to candles for example on days when I lock myself away in the bathroom for a "spa day" where I do all the self-pampering girl stuff. They're just comforting in a way I can't really explain.

11. I like a scented candle now and then.
Edited on Sun Oct-15-06 03:07 PM by NewWaveChick1981
But I don't have tons of them, and I don't burn them all the time. I hate "air fresheners", and I never use a candle as such. However, I like caramel and apple spice candles in the fall and at Christmas just because I like the scent. And the candles I use usually have no suggestive shapes---they mostly come in round tins. (For suggestive shapes, there are plenty of other things... ;) )

I never burn more than one candle at a time. I know some people love lighting many, many candles at one time for a romantic effect, but it's too much of a fire hazard.

12. I love Yankee Candles too

It's so bad that I own (and use) a Yankee Candle credit card. Don't forget incense, though. I also own lots of incense. I burn at least one stick a day. Red Ginger are Nag Champa are my faves.

13. My boyfriend loves candles
So I don't really see it as a "woman thing" at all. I like them because the light is soothing and the scent is subtle and pleasant. I hate the harshness of electric lighting - I'd much prefer gaslight or candles.

At one point in my life, I had all the fixtures in my house set up with 7 watt bulbs because I hated the brightness of anything more than that.
