Just listened to Sting's newest CD.
"Songs from the Labyrinth "

He takes the songs of John Dowland and sings them in the true spirit of the songs. He sings them from the heart. It it Sting and Edin Karamozov on Lute. Accept it for what it is, love songs simply sung. I highly recommend it.

It gives me chills.

1. I have loved Dowland since
I first heard him played by Julian Bream.

3. He used to play a lot of Dowland
transcribed for classical guitar. Not as full as on the lute but still wonderful.

4. I was hoping to hear the lute that night, but his guitar work
was so good, it didn't matter.

5. Thanks for the review
My husband loves Sting. I might get that CD for his birthday, which is next month...I think he'd like that.

6. Good gift. I saw Sting on CBS Sunday Morning. As soon as the
bookstore opened I went down and bought a copy. They already had several on hold that day.

7. I love Sunday Morning.
Precisely because - (beside the Nature endings)- it almost always has jewels like that piece with Sting. The music is new to me. I'm checking out Costco for the CD tomorrow!

8. My grandfather played the Lute. I never got to hear him play.
He died way before I was born. We do have a picture of him playing a round back Mandolin. My dad broke that Mandolin over his brother's head.

9. Oh, dear...
That's sad - to not have known that Grandpa.

I admit, the Mandolin over the head did bring a small smile to my face though.

I've heard this kind of music only a few times in my life and was very taken with Sting's interpretation this morning.

10. I have a friends who play early music. I've always liked it.
I always liked this CD:

"Llibre Vermell de Montserrat" Jordi Savall and Hesperion XX

My dad had 3 brothers, he was the oldest. They were put in an orphanage, so he had to keep them in line. He probably knocked them around real good. Only one went bad. It must
have been the blow on the head from the Mandolin.
