Let's talk litter boxes
Does anyone use "LitterMaid" boxes?

Testimonials, please.

I can't make up my mind.

1. I have 2
cats love them. Makes my life a lot easier (lung problems and stirring up litter dust makes me sick). Cats don't seem to mind the movement/noise. In fact I have one who deliberately triggers them just to watch.

Downside. A cat with the runs can cause the rake to clog but one of those long 'afro' picks does a perfect job of cleaning the rake.

2. Still three cats, CatWoman?
:hi:

It might do for three cats, provided they all have - forgive me - firm stools. The comb that rakes the litter after the cat has left the box can get irretrievably nasty from loose stools.

Too you'll need a super-super-firm clumping litter, because if the clumps aren't solid, they'll break apart, and then what's the point?

It didn't work for Katzenengel Farms, but it might work for you. Hopefully someone with fewer cats will weigh in.

3. Bertha!!!
:hi:

I have four now (I adopted a rescue from DUer Ulysses to give Streak a playmate. She was so sad when Trinity died).

I'm thinking of getting two Litter Maids.

How's Skittles?

15. I'm so out of touch.
Congrats on Streak's new companion!

Skittles is fine. Still has her parts. The feral whose kittens we fostered has become tame, taken over the house, and begun to kick Skittles' ass.

He also freaks out when he sees the neighbors out on their deck - so far I haven't seen them wearing any garish clothing.

8. My mom had one once
But it needed more batteries or attending than she wanted.

However, I'm interesting in reading more comments here.

:bounce:

BTW, shouldn't the DU have smilies for kitties (and pooches)? :-)

One 10 year old and three rescued kittens. I'd invest in them if I heard enough good things about them, I am soooooo sick of scooping! x(

18. After looking into the automatic scoop pans,
I just bought an Omega Paw self-cleaning litter box. It's not automatic, it's not electronic, but no more scooping! You just roll it over and back...and the poo goes into a big scoop thing that you pull out...and then you just dump the contents into the trash.

I love it so far. It's faster, it's less stinky, and there's no scooping. However, if you have more than a couple of cats, you might want to get two, because the surface area of the litter pan is quite a bit smaller than regular pans. My cats don't seem to mind though.

Oh, and it's WAY cheaper than the automatic ones!

24. Does it keep the cats from tracking litter all over?
I have one or two that have made it their mission in life to fling the litter about every time they use the litter box. I not only have to change the litter, I have to sweep the floor constantly.

I put down one from a bathroom set and it kept the rest of the apartment clean.

28. Is that those electronic litter boxe
Twice in the past 2 years I've been in a line at the petstore next to someone returning those things. From what I gather - they're not very good with high volume use. If you had one cat it might work but with 4 cats - that's alotta crap!

32. You have to empty the collection box. 4 cats would fill it in 1/2 day
Eventually, I had one for each - and each picked his/her favorite.
