The RetroLounge Daily Poem Thread (Tue 10/17/06)
Love in the Rainforest

This is how we've been making
love in the rainforest;
first I get lost in the woods,
leaving a trail you can follow.
I take a book and read.
It will take you a long time to catch up.
You are slow and voracious,
What I hear next is not
footsteps or poetry,
(you are not footed or literate),
but rasping lust.
Folklore says I'm aroused
by the sound of you licking my trail,
which is silver and luminous.
Folklore says when you catch me,
you will bite, and I will bite you.

In the forest, where paths are green
and edible, we will devour
everything that grows between us,
dandelion, grass, wild strawberries.
Then we will turn ourselves inside out,
become pearlescent, glow, and you
will curl yourself around me,
slowly—this is beyond tango.
Like taffy, you will pull and twist,
the shine, the taste,
sugar boiled hard,
until we are neither male nor female,
riding our carpet of juices, but slugs
eating our way back to Paradise.

Linda Rogers

1. Alrightee RL!
After reading that how in the world do you expect me to go back to work!

Nice poem, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Almost as much as I would love to get lost in the wood with a good book.

:hi:
