Meet the newest member of my family!

My first little dog. We normally only get rescue dogs from the pound and usually large ones at that. But since we lost my daughters cat she's been wanting to have a little one, so this little guy Pippin, is my daughters christmas gift come 2 months early.


Anyone got any advice on little dogs. He's part maltese and Poodle or a Maltipoo.

So far he's doing well with the cats, well one cat anyway, the other will take time to warm up to him.

And our big dog border collie/retriever mix seems to be doing well with him but grumps when he jumps on him. We are trying to first show attention to our big guy so he doesn't get jealous but it's hard with the little dog who wants to be lap dog.

Any advice on that? Lucky our big baby is in the background there

5. I think you should get rid of him

he'll be NOTHING but TROUBLE for the older dogs and cats. He'll get hair all over you and your furniture since he wants to be a *lap* dog. bleh.

He doesn't shed.. or barley sheds plus my older baby sheds a little puppy every day so that's not a problem. but anyway I'll consider myself forwarned!

Sounds like you're on the right track. I always respected my dogs pecking order - at one time, I had five and I always greeted them in order of their place in the pack. That sort of thing does help keep the peace and avoid resentment between them. I'm sure they'll be fine. And congratulations! :bounce:

:hi: :bounce: :loveya: I have two dogs, a six-year-old Lab/Doberman mix and a three-year-old bird dog/pointer/Jack Russell/who-knows-what-else mix. When the three-year-old came to live with us at eight weeks old, she was a holy terror because she thought she was the queen. :rofl: We had to make sure our older dog had plenty of attention and reassurance. They get along very well, but they constantly jockey for dominance. It can be a big issue in our house since they are both alpha females, but we deal with it. :D

My advice on having a small dog is to make sure you train him just as you would if he were a bigger dog. Many times, people ignore that for small dogs since they're so easy to pick up.
