Poll question: Periodic "Do you/ did you/ should you wear glasses?"
Reposted from last December 'cause I found it when looking for something else and noticed I'd left an important option off. Yes as a matter of fact, I am the most anal-retentive person on Earth.:D

Full disclosure: blind as a bat, me.

2. Unfortunately, I legally have to carry reading glasses when I fly
Fortunately, I only have to actually use them when I need to (if it involves night flying and reading anything, that would be most of the time).

32. I am....
The flying part is easy, vision wise. It's trying to read those %$#@ charts in poor light.

4. I wear 'em...
most all the time. I only take 'em off for...well...to sleep. Sometimes. I've worn glasses since I was in the fourth grade, though -- I feel naked without 'em.

9. Contacts since 1984
But I've been wearing corrective lenses since 1968 when I was 8 years old. And they were bifocals.

I can't see my hand in front of my face without corrective lenses.

10. I need glasses, suriving without at present....
last week was the final straw of sorts. I got our electric bill in, and I looked at it 5 times...and I thought for sure it said 92.23...so, I get out the correct change, I even had to dig deep in my piggy bank to get the change....and I decide to leave the rest of my change, cause I know the bill was 92.23, and I even look one more time, and yep, 92.23...

I get to the electric company, show my slip, and give up the cash/change, and the lady says I'm over a dollar short. I was wtf? The bill says 92.23, and she says...nope, its 93.61....I looked at it again...and she was abosolutelyfreaking RIGHT. I couldnt' believe my eyes....I paid 90 bucks and finished the rest with my credit card...cause I didn't have the extra buck and change to pay the bill....I told my wife about that later on that night, and she just shook her head...

I also have a hard time reading road signs...not the main roadsigns, like stop/merge what have you...but mile markers, or exits numbers...I cannot read them until I'm almost up on them....it sucks...the last time I had my eyes checked was in 95, or 94...and at the time the doc said my eyes were going bad because...check this, I read to much, and hardly ever take breaks from reading...

14. Me neither
Gas permeable weren't noticeably more comfortable than regular hard contacts, and my astigmatism was too pronounced for softs to work well. Since I fell in with the woman with a cat (now two cats), I don't think I could even get 'em in my eyes.

13. I wear contact lenses with reading glasses, OR...
Two pair of glasses at the same time. When I'm at the computer wearing my bifocals, I can't see anything since the "farsighted" part is at the bottom of the glasses. So I wear reading glasses on top of them. It frightens people.

21. Y'know...that's what the eye doc suggested to me the last time.
He suggested that, instead of bifocals, I might want to try contact lenses for distance and the wear reading glasses when I need to.

Have since I was 13. I'm quite nearsighted; my uncorrected vision is something like 20/400 or 20/500. Without glasses the world looks like a Monet painting.

24. Slightly near-sighted
I'm on the boarder of what's legal to drive with. I can get by most of the time without glasses, but for certain things (such as seeing the board during class) I need them.

26. Does anyone else see something the matter with these rates?
One person clicked that their vision is fine?

ONE?

What the heck is going on here!

Wait a second, don't worry. I resolved much of it through a better H(0), to the extent that I don't know if it is still p < 0.05. :)

:)

:D
In case you're interested, here's the first go at this poll, from 6/04, which indicated that nearly everybody here is (or was) blind: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=1215821
and this is the second one, from last December, where the non-nearsighted came out of the closet:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=4420939

27. I'm nearsighted and wear glasses
I used to wear contacts but got to the point that my eyes couldn't tolerate them anymore so I went back to glasses. I've thought about Lasik but not only don't have the money, but have heard it's not a good option for people with dry/allergy eyes, which mine are. I'll probably be wearing glasses forever.
